This thread is for the golden triad of albums from three specific artists, The Cure, Peter Gabriel and My Bloody Valentine that are supposedly due this year. Anyone want to place bets if they actually come out?

Though I suppose you can also post about other overdue releases in here too (except for those two beanie hatted brothers, I think there's another section on the site dedicated to them for some reason. :P)

Ngl, I thought MBV signing to Domino would be a good omen for a new release, but it's been well over a year since the announcement and there hasn't been a single whiff of news.

They're doing a good job of keeping the existing releases in print, though. I only wish that they pressed the EP comp to vinyl too!

Arctic Monkeys are waiting to unleash a new record this year as well, although there's been little info about it. Seems that Metacritic has 'em listed as anticipated but not announced. https://www.metacritic.com/browse/albums/release-date/coming-soon/date

I have a soft spot for the previous "Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino", quite an adventurous pop record with galactical leanings. Can I have a part 2?

But I've got a tenner on it not being Turner's year.

I never really got into Arctic Monkeys. Always thought they were QOTSA for people who drink Carling and wear shutter shades. However, I listened to that album around the time it came out and was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. I wouldn't go so far as to say I loved it, but it definitely resonated with me a lot more than their previous stuff. If they continue on that trajectory, they may have a new fan on board

Considering The Cure are one of my favorite bands, I'd like to think putting my money on them will work out for me. I'd also like to think I might hear a new album from at least ONE of my favorite bands. C'mon, Bobert, don't let me down.

He claims Songs For A Lost World will be out before they tour Europe in October. I'd love that but it's coming up fast with no announcement!

Sherbet Head, you'd think MBV signing with Domino Records was a good sign, but in an interview, Kevin made a bad joke that DR "have their back catalog" in case they don't make another album. As soon as I heard that, my confidence was shaken.

I know a few Liam Gallagher wannabe's so an accurate description rkid.
Talked with a guy today who isn't a fan of the new direction. "I know Arctic Monkeys as a..." *pauses to air guitar* " band y'know?"

He said they should stay true to themselves and rock out on every record. And that this Elevator Music era is plain naff to him.
Alternatively, I put an argument forth that they've been maturing as a band and Alex and co are maturing and experimenting. It's odd that he loved The Last Shadow Puppets but not the new single. Strings on Mirrorball being as lush as they are.

When "The Car" is released I'll think about scooping a copy from a shop down the road. :P

I appreciated them turning up to an awards ceremony dressed as characters from the Wizard of Oz

After Fletch passed I was all but convinced that we wouldn't get another DM album, so if Memento Mori ends up coming out before The Cure's "Album In A Lost World" and whatever BoC's doing I will close my eyes and gently shake my head from side to side in their general direction.

I noticed that earlier. Came as a shock I'll grant you.

Sadly now without Fletcher, they're an ever decreasing band. I hope they'll honor him in some capacity. From this Rolling Stone Article, it says when the album was in pre-production but not yet recorded, scraps of ideas, that's around the time Andy died.

The last DM album I heard was Delta Machine. (that was a stomper.) Whenever this comes out I'll listen to it. But count me dubious until then.

I quite liked Delta Machine, don't know if that's an unpopular opinion in certain circles. From the brief snippet played at the beginning of their Berlin event, it sounds like it'll be more reminiscent of Playing The Angel and Sounds of the Universe which is a big plus in my book. I was not a fan of how Spirit turned out and I was hoping it wouldn't be their last one.

You could tell at the event that Martin and Dave were both still grieving over Fletcher, so I think they're continuing the works in his honor.

The Cure is supposed to be releasing their album before their tour in October...guess what, it's October ;)

The only edge I'll give BOC over Robert Smith and Kevin Shields is at least they don't promise albums that never come out...they have their lackies do it for them ;)

Also the above post is in good humor. Was in a cheeky mood but I love those guys regardless if they put out anything or not.

That said, very cool that DM is rolling along. I heard about Fletch's death on the super deluxe edition site so it's kinda nice that they are paying tribute to him.

Get an assortment of syllables and letters and put 'em on a plate, because you are about to eat your words!

Alright... it probably isn't coming in 2022 and honestly, I playfully jest. But there's some new Cure!!

To quote a wise sage from the Sega dreamcast: I'll make you eat those words!

It's funny but My Bloody Valentine, Peter Gabriel and The Cure all have put out live tracks that are unreleased. Some tracks are quite good, (Check out Peter Gabriel's Baby Man, which is probably what I/O sounded like in 2004) but they never seem to pull the trigger and drop something!

Robert Fripp once said that an album was like a love letter, but a live performance was a hot date. But in 2022, unreleased live songs are a love letter and an actual album is a hot date! :P

(For BOC, remixes are a love letter, but a new track is any kind is a hot date)

Peter Gabriel's I/O confirmed.

I'm 1/3. I was actually going to put my cash on The Cure this year, but Peter finally managed to get himself together after 20 years!

Kevin Shields is gonna continue to be a legacy artist sadly.
