In here is a tragedy, art thou player or audience?
Be as it may, the end doth remain:
all go on only toward death.

or an onlooker, peering into the cage.

The SH4 period seemed to be a creative peak for Yamaoka. Listening to all the stuff he made during that time like this feels like listening to an experimental dark ambient/trip hop album with a rock section to close.

Disk 1:
1. Serious**
2. Two Evils*
3. Underground Dawn (EEE Mix)*
4. Resting Comfortably

I really like your new campfire headphase tracklist. I've always thought Left Side Drive should've been included on the album.
I would add the Last Walk Around Mirror Lake remix in there too. :)
yes, i would love to be free!

All the songs that Modern English released as singles (and later as bonus tracks) before their debut LP would have made a great debut EP (or even LP) on their own:

Modern English - Smiles and Laughter
1. Gathering Dust
2. Mesh and Lace
3. Smiles and Laughter
4. Swans On Glass
5. Incident
6. Home
7. Black Houses*
8. Dance of Devotion (a Love Song)*
9. Tranquility of a Summer Moment

* - Appears on "Mesh and Lace" LP, but would have worked in this context as well

They could have kept the same artwork too:
Spoiler: show

Since I can't edit this post, here's how I'd place the rest of the gloomy era Modern English

Modern English - Just a Thought (EP)
A1. 16 Days
A2. Just a Thought
A3. Move In Light
B1. Grief
B2. The Token Man
B3. A Viable Commercial

Don't sleep on these guys, from their early Bauhaus phase to their later Bunnymen-esque style, they're a perfectly fine New Wave band. :)

B2. Boqurant + 5.9.78
B3. Buckie High

And last track hidden behind a locked groove: P.C.
