Lots of noise and negative comments really can weigh on one's mind and creative spirit, and I know his proximity to Boards is both a blessing and a curse.
To keep creating through all the aimless hate, rampant cluelessness, brief attention spans, AI slop, you name it, takes a very special kind of person. I'm still trying to give myself permission to be like him and other musician friends I look up to immensely.
Well said man.
I can't even begin to imagine, and you're spot on - enduring all of that says so much about the man. Mad respect to Chris for his persistent expression all these years, despite the noise.
I was actually just listening to Kardashev Type One earlier this afternoon. The whole Cathexis project is so fucking cool.
I also heard rumblings last month of a Pylonesque analogue remaster coming soon on baby blue! Really hoping to get my hands on a copy. An incredible EP that has been a constant in my life, and will always be at top of my list - amongst his other works of course!
Absolom (For Lucy) is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
I remember hearing Ganky on Blue Shift Emissions for the first time. I hadn't heard anything like it - still gives me goosebumps. I picked up christ. live on cd a ways back (still have it in my cd collection alongside distance!) just because I love the live version so much.
I remember some time ago back when myspace was a thing, he wrote on my wall and simply said something like 'hell yeah man' and he let me know he was listening to a track I put up. I still think about it. Sometimes when I'm recommending his music to people I will mention it like 'yeah no big deal', despite my self-proclaimed inability to be star-struck or whatever hah.
He also ended up sending me the recording of his peel session some time ago, buuuut unfortunately I ended up losing that hard drive and the recording with it a while back. :(
Anyways, I wanted to pop in and share my love of Christ. and say that Chris is a musical hero of mine. I cherish his work and he has inspired me immensely through the years!
