If this doesn't reach deep into the heart, nothing does. One of my favourite modern classical artists. He perfectly combines electronica with violins etc. <3

This YouTube channel is an absolute wealth of ambient-meets-classical works:

I'm extremely thankful to Amo Bishop Roden for recommending Hammock's album 'Maybe they will sing for us tomorrow' on another thread as it's now one of my favourites, i'd say it sits quite well on this thread.

no prob! they've become my most played over the past couple years. really amazing restraint and attention to detail. and tape! oh the tape! i went on a train trip last summer and all i played on repeat was "echo park" and "always in postscript" on repeat ripped straight from the vinyl. they were thoroughly narcoleptic trips indeed. here's postscript on bandcamp for all those interested, available on 10" vinyl:

emailed them awhile back about a new record and it seems it's in the works. slowly. nice chaps too.

Of the SotL side projects, Brian McBride's solo stuff doesn't seem to get mentioned as often - he seems to lean more to the classical direction on his own. The Effective Disconnect is a spectacularly beautiful album.

Anyone heard of Kyle Bobby Dunn?

The name might sound like a country and western singer, but one for Stars of the Lid fans to check out, I reckon.

his last few records have been a bit "same-ey" to me, but nice stuff nonetheless.

Nice wee article about the current state of ambient music, with some good recommendations -

This sounded quite interesting - 'Satie Slowly' by Philip Corner, does what it says on the tin.
