My new album, A Shunned Place, has been released on Concréte Tapes.

It's available on limited edition green cassette (with free digital download), or just as a download. You can also stream it. The label will ship the tape worldwide. I believe one has been sent to New Zealand.

The album marks a bit of a departure from my previous stuff. It's a bit more stripped-down, and written/recorded in a far more "live" way, rather than building up layers and overdubs. The guy who runs the label asked me to play live at one of his nights, so this led me to finding a new way of writing based around being able to do that.

There was a big influence from horror soundtracks, particular those Italian ones from the 1970's, because they are just great. It has a very rural feel to it. There is a lot of woodland imagery. A lot of British folk-horror things in there.

The label has described it thus:

"Polypores conjures up imaginary soundtracks from public service broadcasts and science fiction films of a bygone age that never existed. Think John Carpenter and Italo-disco filtered through Scarfolk Council’s tannoy system, or Donna Summer pitched down to 33 rpm and heard through a haze of long-banned sedatives and you’re in the right ballpark."

I hope some of you enjoy it.
