and it seems like I'm missing the point here..

huphtur pointed out that I missed Burial - Burial in my Best of 2006 mix. Luckely it seems like I didn't miss anything at all afterall.
To me it's like loosely connected beats with some vocal samples in it. Some beat structures are nice though but a weak release in general.

It was Boomkat's album of the year, what a laugh :D

most dubstep is pretty meh i think... an attempt to sell grime to the idm crowd. I like the more jungley stuff like Skream or Hydra though.

I think it's a decent record, I like "Gutted" and "Distant Lights" especially, but it seems to be more soundscape and atmosphere than anything. You'll love it or hate it. I love the feeling of it though. Very urban and very dark.

I guess I need to check these guys out, only so I can finally understand what the hell dub-step is and potentially "grime". WTF.

You obviously need to get down with the kidz

I still need to check out Burial. I've heard very good things - i've read reviews saying the album will appeal to fans of BoC and Joy Division. I think the Joy Division comparison comes from the whole moody-inner-city-atmosphere-thing.

Dub-step has kind of passed me by, as has Grime. Isn't it all just a cooler name for *shudders* "UK Garage"?

I was thinking the exact same thing.
WTF? Dub-Step and Grime?WHAT THE FUCK?
....
....
But then I thought...Who gives a shit about names/genres. Its the music that counts (as alway's).

dizzee and more fire crew... that's the extent of my knowledge of the grime scene. what about speed garage? that was a flash in the pan.

Ok, I'm on the cusp of grabbing some music by these fellas.

Please tell me they're not in the same vein as say, "Collective Soul" or "Live" / "Disturbed". The name "Burial" just comes off as a front-man with a goatee and numerous thick piercings/tattoos belting out non-sequitur's about God/Christ and moral up-bringing all atop a grungy grimey hip-hopish beat laid upon a noisy/warbly background synth pad.

No, dude, it's nothing like that. It's more like dark, dark DJ Krush only minus the hip-hop sensibility and standard breaks and maybe 3X more ambient. It's sort of in it's own little world, at least as far as the music I currently own is concerned.

This happens occasionally it seems. I'm sure you don't block popups from Twoism, right?
