If I were to submit something, it'd be a track that is around 1:00. Kind of a filler track, to say the least.

Always shady but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Technically OoT is a mix and there is no real commercial use, so I'd say it's alright, right?

Long shot (which I might have asked before, in which case I apologise in advance) - has anyone looked into getting OOT onto vinyl?

If the price was right, I'd happily pay for a vinyl copy well and truly in advance. I was browsing and found this guy who seems reasonable IF there are enough people interested. OK, he's based in the USA, but maybe there is a European alternative?

Just a thought....

I don't think this has been discussed before.

Pressing on vinyl in a low print run is very expensive. Every edition has to be pressed on double vinyl which is even more expensive. I don't think it is achievable to keep the price per release under 50.- (euro).

I reckon that even if I find a place where they would print small runs for reasonable prices, I still have to make a huge investment without being sure to sell everything.

Darn it. Thought as much.
Well, if that changes, I'll be in like a shot!! :D

Mastering for vinyl is a more involved and difficult process than for CD too. Fewer people have the skills and it subsequently costs a lot more.

Shame it is prohibitively expensive as I would love to hear OOT on vinyl.

I wanna submit a track, will be back in washington state, where all my stuff is... tommorow.

Thanks for the heads up, Rob! Merry xmas everyone.

I didn't know that. Good knowledge!

Makes me wonder how some of the vinyl I own ever got made. Either those dark ambient releases on Miasmah are shifting more units than I realised or they're making a huge loss!

they're probably pressing through mobineko and have someone that's skilled in the way of vinyling mastering them.

And even through mobineko, 100 copies is still like $850

edit: and that's for 1xLP

Aesthetics, are you considering possibly having any different genres included in this year's installment other than the typical IDM/Downtempo/Electronica that OOT has?

If so, I'll prep a couple of other tracks that may or may not be suitable.

Most of our tracks collectively here are digitally based, probably entirely digitally based for a couple of us here, and most of our masters are digital audio files from DAW's. Would there be any gain from having it on vinyl?

Maybe if all our tracks were in 24-bit depth there'd be some benefit from the more analogous waveform but I don't think everyone would do that.

Still, interesting idea. Maybe someday if we all start saving money (group PayPal, maybe) Twoism can put together some sort of collaboration recorded to studio tape with analog synths, mastered for vinyl and then pressed on vinyl, be it OOT or otherwise. Would be a cool experience.

Looks like I'm submitting a country song.

Hey, just want to confirm that I will be making some tracks. I don't see the link to the participation email the banner speaks of.

Fri Dec 30, 2011 12:19 am

This took a lot of hard thinking. I don't think I'll participate this year. I have a lot of good tracks and I want them all on my new album. If i'm lucky I'll make something good before time runs out, but I doubt it. I haven't been making anything good lately. I'm still excited for the release.

Quoted from the initial post:
Aesthetics wrote:Send a participation email to Image with your forum and artist name if you are going to submit a song for OoT5. This way we will not be surprized with an overload by the end of the deadline.

Would be wise to contact the ophthalmologist Rodheh ;)

We'll see.

And you should bold that in the post.

Thanks to whoever added the little reminder at the bottom of the banner. I just sent my email.
