Anyone on here ever use Google Earth to scope out the Pentland Hills? I imagine the brothers' bunker is underground, but it's still fun to look. So I'm looking just west of the pentlands, when I see this:
WHAT THE FUCK
IS THAT THING? It doesn't look like a bunker, but... man, it's creeping me out.
Just to prove I didn't doctor up this image, I left the coordinates visible. Look for yourselves, and tell me if you know what it is!
That red marking looks like either some sort of crosshairs or a cross of some kind.
(Maybe they haven't released another new album yet because they got blown off the face of the earth.) It is about .01 kilometers wide.
Creepy marking aside, that looks like as likely a candidate for the location as I could find. It's remote, yet only about 3 miles from a town, there are woods... seems perfect.

The symbol itself, after some searching bares some resemblance to the Japanese letter 'ho'. Not sure if this means anything, though.

Underground? I dunno, man. I mean, come on. They're just normal guys who make killer music. They're not hermits or misers or what have you.
Also, I thought I read in an interview they moved out of the Pentlands sometime around TCH?

Hmm... I never read that. Nevertheless, I'd still like very much to know what I'm seeing here.

Didn't they say in the interview with Wire that theyre now living somewhere in/or by Edinburgh?

Something to that effect, yeah. Isn't the Pentlands around that area though? I could have sworn I remembered them saying a more specific area that wasn't that far from the Pentlands. Could be wrong though.
Also, perhaps that picture is some sort of bizarre brush fire?

here's an extract:-
I always carry Boards Of Canada interviews around with me...........
Tue Aug 28, 2007 7:39 am
Yup, that's the one! Which interview did that one come from?
Also, on a side note. Just because they moved doesn't necessarily mean the studio moved, too as they don't live in the studio... to my knowledge...

Btw, they NEVER lived in a bunker. They've said in interviews (and in the first few seconds of the full XYZ clip) that that was an exaggeration on the record companies/media's part.
Tue Aug 28, 2007 1:39 pm
I thought they said the exaggeration was the record company saying they lived in a commune... pretty sure they said it was an old bunker.
Also, speaking to the location, that quote says "southwest of edinburgh". This place I found
is just southwest of edinburgh, on the west side of the pentlands.
mechanismj wrote:Also, perhaps that picture is some sort of bizarre brush fire?
If that were true, there'd be a cloud of smoke.

Did the guys not say somewhere else they're living near Berwick now? i've been there on caravaning holidays as a kid, and all im going to say it that it really ISNT the kind of place that would welcome a our heroes Michael and Marcus!

I brought that up because it looks dark and black around the area. Perhaps there was a fire earlier on. Of course that doesn't explain the red color of the lines. However, I think the least likely answer is that it's some secret underground complex that's run by a couple musicians that don't make very much money to begin with.
Also, there's apparently pictures of the place floating about that show a snow covered cabin that is apparently their studio. Not sure if they're confirmed though.

Ah, but what if it IS???
It may be asinine, but rumors like that are so much fun.
Nah, I doubt it's anything like that, but maybe there's something down there, and the brothers were clever enough to come up with a way to make this big red mark on their land?
Still sounds silly.
I'm still half convinced that the red might not even really be there. It could just be something on the image, but I haven't been able to find another map that zooms in close enough on that area. (Microsoft's version get reeeealy close around Edinburgh, but gets blurry just outside this area.

They may be getting old for you, but I've only been aware of BoC for about a year.
As you know, the brothers have said that they try to use thir music to put something in the listener's mind. To connect with them in a way. For me, knowing where they worked on this amazing music, making a geological connection, goes hand in hand with that. Putting a location to a name, so to speak. The sort of things they do interest me, and it's cool to see a place where they might have had their campfire gatherings and imagine what it must have been like. Since I am a family man, I will probably never have that kind of experience, of gathering in the woods with friends to drink and listen to unusual music in the middle of the night. It's become a sort of fantasy.
So don't ruin it for those who still explore the BoC mythology. The meaning, method, and the story of the men behind the songs is part of what makes it so interesting.

Well do us all a favor when you are going on your BoC Mythological Retreat for info you will never find, search previous threads for your answers. This Topic has been discussed too many times on here.

I guess what polar sky is trying to say is: Try to place yourself in the position of some members that are here for a few years already and have seen a lot of simular discussions.
We lost a few very esteemed members because of this..

An excellent point politely made Aesthetics. However, I also feel there is a counter-point to be made too, with respect.
Is it really such a bother to some people on here if somebody discusses something that has been discussed before? I know it can sometime be really, really tiresome reading the same old same old (Another thread on Old Tunes anyone?), but when all is said and done is it really such a big deal? If the subject isn't interesting I'll just ignore it and move on leaving those that want to discuss it to do just that. What is old hat for some of us is new and exciting for somebody else. Remember when you first found all this stuff out for the first time? Cool wasn't it? Well I thought so anyway... I guess all I'm saying is a little patience doesn't hurt? Ahh, I'll shut up - what do I know? Peace and hugs and warm tea all round, that's what I say...
What I find more interesting is the suggestion they might be holed up somewhere near Berwick upon Tweed. Not that I care where they make the music (for all I care they could write in a semi-detached in Galashiels as long as it
sounds like it was hand-crafted in a crofters cottage in the Hebrides), but Berwick is actually in England (albeit only just). Surely the brothers haven't infiltrated the border into my beloved home county of Northumberland?!? If so I'm very happy, if slightly shocked.

Point taken Mexicola but the newbies tend to forget this:
"Be sure to search, and browse the forum before making a new topic at all times." of which they agree too. This is what polar sky pointed out as well.
I'm well aware that there are constantly new BoC fanatics quiver about new facts and all but they should do a proper search first and dig through the board a bit before posting stuff, as well as pay a visit to the BoC pages and the Wiki pages.
Now let's stay on topic.. or I'm forced to split the topic
