How clean is your studio?

...those of us who record I mean.

I'm lucky enough to have a dedicated room for recording in.

I'm terrible at cleaning as I go, and when I'm recording a track, and the ideas are flowing, I'll pull cables from drawers, and old bits of gear from boxes, and then just leave it.

Then I'm stepping over shit by the time I'm working on the next track, and so on.

Anyway, I imposed a ban on myself, prohibiting all recording until the studio space is all clean and tidy. Several days later, I'm almost there. I've always been ashamed to post any pics of my recording space, but I'm almost in a position where I can take a picture I'm proud to show you all

It's a shitstorm. Though at the same time it's also my bedroom so that adds.

Right now mine is just my parents' dining room as I'm away from school... it's sort of just a messy corner with a huge mac, a digitech pedal, two basses, three guitars, a fuck ton of cables, a drum machine, and a mini kaoss pad. It's actually fairly easy to get a big sound out of just that equipment, and I've been satisfied with it so far. But it is definitely messy.

Oh and a four track I use to mic/record percussion and then swap it onto the computer. The percussion being miscellaneous objects found throughout the house/garage lol.

I have a corner in the living room now, so I'm kind of obligated to keep it clean or the entire room will look like a mess. A little corner with a mic taped to camera-tripod and a regular computer keyboard as a keytar and I still make sicker sounds then whats on the radio. minimalist BOOYAH!

Im fortunate enough to have a large room that houses my studio.
I tend to keep it tidy for various reasons.
1. A tidy organized studio is definitely foundational to me being able to completely focus on what im doing , rather than trying to move pizza boxes away from the screen , or finding a plethora of dog chew toys on my chair.

2. Im married , and would never get away it looking like an explosion in an oxfam shop.

Ha mine is my bedroom, but it's a bit too clean and organised. My mates reckon I've a touch of OCD haha. I feel like i can concentrate and do better work in a space that is orderly and nice looking. Got plenty of space as well as lots of cool posters and random bits and bobs all over the place, and my BoC collection on display. I think I do better work in a nice clean, nice chilled environment that I can relax in.

Oh god, my recording space is just a clutter. I've had people ask me to record their band before, and I never take the offer because it looks so unofficial. Plus, there's hardly any space to roam around. Every time I try to clean it up, it always becomes a mess, again. Hahah, but I guess that's the price you pay when your bedroom is also your recording studio.

Heh heh. I'm also married, but my wife spends zero time in the studio room, so I can get away with being a little untidy.

I'm nearly there. I vacuumed the floor tonight, and now I'm down to the bits that I don't want to store, but I also don't really want to throw out.

I used to be messy actually, but I'm also a graphic designer. I don't know what it is about designers, but 99% of the designers I've met are the exact same way!

forgot to mention also, I got a copy of the RDJ album signed by the man himself over my imac at my desk. Nothing like that grinning face to scary ya into doing some work!

Messy studio = messy producer. That is my ethic, and as such my recording space is typically super-clean and organized. Knowing where things are helps stop slowdowns during recording, tho like anybody, in the midst of a session things can get messy..but I always clean up afterward.

I often think that mate actually! They drive me nuts. Ugly as fuck, not to mention tripping over em and knocking yer shit all over the place haha. Maybe someday..

Indeed..many generations from now, recording folk will have forgotten the tangled world we worked and toiled in! I'm in school for recording, and it drives me bananas when I come into our studio for a session, go to grab a cable only to find some dumb bastard knotted it or just threw it on the cable rack untied..ah well. We can always dream, lol

I obviously don't know much about it, but I always assumed there was something inherently poor-quality about a wireless signal when recording audio as opposed to using cables. Otherwise, I wonder why no company is jumping on developing it. Or maybe they are....? Enlighten me

At the moment, not clean. Amps all over the place, Microkorg is lying on top of one, computer cables for recording are in a box in the corner but there's so many of them that they're protruding out onto the floor. I had a Kaossilator, god knows where it is now. I'm going to clean up pretty soon and I'm sure I'll find it, but it seems every time I'm not in a "production week/month" things get so cluttered.

Well yes, I would NEVER trust recording anything using a wireless mic or something of that nature..same reason I prefer having a wired internet connection as opposed to wireless - so that nothing can interrupt that signal, and audio is no exception! I was just thinking out loud when I said that earlier..as someone who plans on having a career in audio engineering, I accepted the fact that I will be working with wires for the rest of my life long ago. But like I said..we can dream

Yea, that makes sense. Honestly you just made me a bit excited at the prospect of recording wirelessly. I was just commenting last night to a friend on how I hate coiling cables. Keeps me from recording anything ever because I don't like messes. Laying down 15 cables to get everything setup requires a lot of cleanup--leads to short sessions or none at all
