Beyerdynamic are pretty well regarded as far as I can remember. The headfi forums are a good resource by the way, and whathifi articles tend to be alright (though they are prone to using bullshit 'audiophile' terms on occasion)

if you're looking for awesome sounding cans, go for GRADO. so good!
sr-80s you get a LOT of bang for your buck.
but if you wanna dive in and get THE sound, get the rs-1's or go all the way and get the ps-1000's.
add a headphone tube amp, and you are immersing yourself in aural bliss.
i had a pair of rs-1's and p-1000's, with a schitt valhalla amp. it is WELL worth the buckers.
the rs-1's punch the bass a little more, while the ps-1000 offer s true reference sound stage. your ears will trip out.
go try them if you can.
