I used to be a daily smoker as well. Actually I was high pretty much all the time for a couple of years. When I stopped smoking regularly, it felt like I was on some kind of weird stimulant for a couple of days, lol. More energy than I knew what to do with.

I stopped for awhile because I felt like it was exacerbating my mental health issues. Now I'm to a point where I can occasionally indulge again, and it's nice.

Is the drugs really needed for a boc trip? I go just fine with boc without the need of illegal substances. Aka just lying in bed starring off into space

Incoming pr disaster

Spoiler: show
Never used them and never plan to but I can see why other people like them. Its like responsible drinking where you don't go to far!?!?!? Ok I don't know jack shit about any of this so just carry on.

You aren't missing out on anything, trust me. After a while I realised that sobriety is really quite a high in and of itself and tried desperately to get that feeling back. Drugs just make you feel different flavors of weird. Some people like that and find a way to turn it into a recreational activity, but it definitely isn't like the cartoon depictions.

In the words of BoC when asked about their music's relation to drugs: "We prefer to think of music as the drug"

Basically yes boc should be the drug because it is in such close relation to a drug. I guess try sleeping to boc and maybe some high will occur. Did it once and I actually remembered what a dreamed but it had no relation to boc. I am just happy with boc it self.

Un related but I have felt some weird high many manny years ago. I was like 2 or 3 and I was just starring off to the graphics of the windows xp music player which looks a bit psychedelic. All I can remember was just being inside a projected green very wide triangular prisim and it was somehow closing but not. It seemed endless as if I were to not be able to comprehend the size endless. I wonder if the age and the extreme inexperience of weird stimulations had triggered what ever the hell happened.

All of that could have just been a very wierd dream but I can not recall anymore.

Personally, I think most people should try some sort of psychedelic drug once in their lives, unless there's a history of schizophrenia or other serious psychosis in them or their immediate family. As Salvidor Dali said "everyone should eat hashish - but only once."

BoC have said they prefer to think of their music as the drug, this is true. However, they've also described how their experience with psychedelics has influenced their music, and one could argue that experiencing their songs under the influence could give you a greater understanding of how they were created.

For example, in one interview they stated that the style of TCH was meant to imitate the time-dilation effects of acid. Nlogax was another one they specifically mentioned being influenced by psychedelics:

"We sometimes make a tune metamorphose as it plays. An example is "Nlogax" from the Hi Scores EP on Skam, which begins like an old electro or disco track but halfway through it suddenly becomes something nightmarish, like your brain is starting to malfunction in the middle of the tune. Psychedelics make music sound entirely different. Tiny details become massive, a five-minute track can feel like it's five hours long on psychedelics. You know when you're on a ride at a fairground, the pitch of the music rises and falls because of the Doppler-Effect? That's another thing we love to do in our tracks, and it's a fairly psychedelic-sounding effect too."

Interview in Force Magazine, 1998

Psychedelics can be an great tool to accelerate development towards self-actualization, but of course it isn't necessary. It's possible to get glimpses of life without the distortion of your person's labels and judgements. The reason for that is because when under the influence of a psychedelic drug, all sense perceptions are so enhanced there is a lot less room for thinking a.k.a. the rational mind. We call a chair a chair so we don't have to really see it anymore, that's what the mind does, labeling. But if you look closer the chair is actually oneness disguised as a chair. Oneness is all there is and it's is everywhere. We just can't see it because our mind divides everything into abstract stuff, labels and judgements. Yet that separate state feels like our normal state because everyone is in the same illusionary boat.

It is the separation that prevents one from seeing oneness in everything. It's the same with (listening to or making) music. Suddenly there is not you listening to the music anymore, but you become the music. You merge with the sense perception, as oneness. You can certainly get glimpses of that during a trip.

As for psychedelics and music, even though I kind of hate to say it, personally music sounds much deeper when tripping. I'm not saying it's impossible to feel the music as intensely when not under the influence, but for most people it is like that because most people are stuck in their mind (me included), so the real beauty doesn't shine through most of the time. I think I only had a handful occasions where I was sober and I felt an immense amount of joy from listening to music, like I wasn't myself anymore, like I really felt it for the first time.

Interesting stuff :)

I hear they only make you puke if you don't give them the cold-water-infusion treatment or something.

The cold water extraction thing helps, you'll probably still get some nausea tho. But weed's always helped me with that.

It warms the cockles of my heart that this thread is still alive and well, and not buried...the number of times I had to dig this one up, oof.... :P

Woozily nicely baked via much post-work marijuana smokage. New studio monitors successfully hooked up  8)

First post-...2016 journey into the inner workings of the mind and soul. Basking in the afterglow now of a very fulfilling evening.

I sort of worried about getting lost in a bad place due to the current zeitgeist, but lets get hippy dippy and say that its all been love and light. Wish that I'd done this sooner.

You post your best with a slight bight of coherent feel and that we can call get out of here, if everyone follows the same, just watch for shit production - we didn't before. Production in 08' seemed pretty good. Production later was crushed. It gets better, but... You have to communicate.

Don't pray to the production god to the sky. SPEAK to your production friend you're ignoring right next to you.
