Having read this thread, I thought I might share this one with you seeing as it sparked a memory. I was going to say that feelings of dread such as this in ancient places are perhaps buried primal instincts - fight or flight and such - but as I read further I was reminded of a visit to a quarry with my parents and some family friends when I was younger. It was somewhere around Wales (UK) as I recall, and although there was a slight atmosphere to the place, it wasn't so uncomfortable that you just wanted to get out of there, but all of the dogs in the area were going absolutely nuts, barking over and over! I was probably too young to pick up on the types of dread inducing atmosphere mentioned in the thread, but it was very uneasy, and to get to the point I reckon that animals are very astute at picking up these types of vibe, a lot more so than human beings are.
I have had other experiences in adulthood which persuade me that there certainly is an undercurrent beneath our conscious perception of the world which belies a much deeper type of activity which is simply 'off the radar', so to speak. And incidentally, I don't smoke weed, and none of the experiences I am alluding to (bar one) were experienced under the influence of drugs. I don't claim that this is proof of anything ghostly or supernatural however, just that there are things beyond this world, whatever they might be that we can't explain away, but I guess you all know that too, it is probably part of the condition of being a human in a very, very vast universe.
