They DDoS’d this place a couple of days ago. You can see the new visitor record. There are also those spam threads every so often but idk if it’s bots making them

I'm not sure if it's just an American thing but I'm absolutely sick of how much of modern politics is just stereotyping and strawmanning. There doesn't seem to be the desire to have good-faith debates or to discuss ideas with the intent of challenging oneself, but rather a battle of who can make their ideological opponents look as unappealing as possible. I've fully-grown adults engaging in literal power-fantasy bullshit that presents themselves as the sane heroic tough guy and their opponent as this insane degenerate lunatic. Literally on par with playing with dolls. The amount of times I have seen trans people presented as deranged pedophelic autogynophiles and leftists as commies who hate men and whites is absurd. Obviously I'm biased when I say some of this but I find it so tiring and unproductive. Why focus on petty bullshit when some actual serious stuff is happening?

its not an American thing, I see it all over Europe too. I think its an "engagement driven media" thing, but also history repeating itself.

Ideally politics should be extremely boring and be purely center around policy. What policies should be changed, eliminated or implemented?

Instead its just finger pointing and head shaking.

At any rate, I find the real world does not contain as much of this shit as the web would have you believe. Most people are actually pretty cool and not interested in this either. Throw away your smartphone.

Social media makes people self centered as the world tries to take everything from them; they react by lashing out at people that don't look like themselves, the last untouched thing at the center of their insular universes.

But I agree with Cupz there is a lot more love in the world than you'd know from your phone. There's no happiness in trying to inoculate yourself to madness by micro-dosing trauma

Couldn't have said it better. Most of the people in various communities I talk to tend to be this. They're more than willing to sit down and have a reasonable discussion.

Makes me wonder how much of a difference just disconnecting for a week would do for my mental health.

Gotta get it off my chest a little bit, but I'm still harboring a certain mix of anger and depression over how my state's recent election went. I don't have much room to air it out IRL so I have to restrain myself from going full on angryosaka sometimes.
