Interesting, just found this in the archives of the 313 mailing list. Didn't have a review before for the 1997-02-20 Autechre show at which BoC provided support, but we do now, and from none other than the man behind EHX himself:
Phase 6 wrote:Anyway, next up on the stage was Board of Canada. They have one main
record out so far, released last year on Scam, which they were
punting at the gig. I have their first demo tape of 20 odd tracks,
but was more impressed with their live sound. A good solid
orchestration, but preserving the "bedroom studio" sound. Their
overall style is fairly tight, maybe a bit too tight, with little
room for onstage experimentation. They are local to Edinburgh, but
have supported quite a few bands now, including Autechre in England at
various events. I rate them as one to keep an eye on.
Interesting that he suggested they had played a good number of shows already, as to my knowledge the only earlier shows confirmed are 1996-07-19 with Autechre and 1997-0215 at Versivo. So maybe there's some even earlier dates we don't know about...
I added the rest of his review for this show to
Google Notebook for the curious.
