I need to create a master for the OoT4 CD release. The master which I created contained clicks just where the track goes over into the other.

This is usually caused by not burning CDs to Red Book format. You need to use Red Book capable software to avoid this next time. Wavelab is the best one for Red Book, it's not very expensive and does the job.

I think Mac wasn't an option because the Kunaki software only runs on Windows-based systems, I think.

Btw those timezones always confuse me, release is at 23:00 dutch time?

Getting closer! less than 3 hours to go :)

Sadly the CD release will be postponed to 4 Jan 2011. I'm not sure if the clicks are audible on the final product so I have to check that first. :(

I just want to jump in here before there's any wailing and gnashing of teeth, and say that for what it's worth, I tested the CD master with my own ears and heard the clicks, and I hope everyone will take Ae's and my word for it that none of us would be as proud of this release if we just threw it out there with clicks included. Consider this a less virulent strain of BoC-like perfectionism, only in this case you know there is a release date ;)

It sucks about the CD master though, and if anyone has an immediate solution to this kind of problem I'm sure the wisdom of your experience would be greatly appreciated here.

To reiterate, the problem of clicking between contiguous tracks can be solved by using Red Book burning software. You take the whole mix as a Wav or Aiff file, place your split points between the tracks with zero pauses between and it will work (unless there are already clicks in the Wav file in which case it is your mixing software). If you want me to do this for you, send the Wav / Aiff file and I will return you a disc image without clicks between tracks. If you aren't using Red Book, there will be clicks. That's why professional audio engineers use Red Book only for creating master audio CDs. Send me a PM if you want any assistance.

Will

Thanks for your help Will.

The problem isn't with burning a master from the original .wav files. THis all goes smooth and the master disc is as it should be, without any clicks. The problem is with the Kunaki software. This software imports the master CD and combines this with the artwork and release data. It creates an .exe & .pac file which should be checked before sending this package to the Kunaki facility. Once the waves has been exported you should listen to all audio as this is an excact copy of the one that will be burned to CD. All is good, no cracks in the audio but only a little click at the transfer while listening in Winamp for example. This didn't happen with the previous editions..

Once I burn the exported .wav files onto a new master it sounds good but when playing them in Winamp for instance, the clicks appears. I did this with the Kunaki master of OoT3, just to check if the little clicks were also present while playing them in Winamp.. but they didn't, so I guess the master isn't good. I'll now upload this master anyway and send a copy to turquiose70, he then will listen and check if it is ok.

Uploading the tracks to last.fm is also a no go atm.. because this problem occurs :/

Microsite looks beautiful, by the way.

I couldn't agree more.
It's a very decent microsite.

I understand, I'm just looking at Kunaki's site. I've noticed that most mp3 / wav / flac players I've tried introduce gaps into playlists - the only one I have found which doesn't is this one:

http://www.foobar2000.org/

If it doesn't click in that one, then there are no clicks and they must be artifacts introduced by the mp3 player or circumstances external to your mastering and CD burning. It's so difficult to have dialogues about audio mastering and such over the internet, and I hope I didn't come across as assuming that you weren't aware of Red Book and industry standard burning procedures!
I'm glad it sounds like the issue is being resolved. I didn't contribute to this release as you know, partly because I am having to re-evaluate my priorities regarding music because of financial difficulties - music is however still where my heart and soul belong. I will be glad to assist with any other aspects of Twoism releases in the future; I would do some free mastering for you too, as I like to keep my hand in, so to speak!
Cheers,
Will

Just tried playing the files extracted from the master in foobar2000, but still heard the clicks. Unfortunate! :(

Its sounds like the clicks are in the file crossovers. What happens if you paste the files together end to end in Sound Forge or Bias Peak and play them back? Is there still clicking then?

Will
