Don't be ridiculous, if an album were released today everyone on this forum would go apeshit about it. Significant interest in BoC may decline over time, but there's still going to be a lot of attention when they come back around.

Agreed.

i think any sort of news from warp before christmas could mean a spring/early summer release???

Wed Nov 09, 2011 9:50 pm

What bothers me is all the innuendo that basically "it's in the can" and that they're not releasing it...

I know life gets in the way, but where there's a will, there's usually a way...

perhaps there's no more will?

It'd be a nice christmas present.

Only if it has the Tairy Greene seal of approval.

You'll only get one if you eat a pound of hair in the year. Just grab from from down by your dengus.

There's always a way.

Honestly if there were means keeping the brothers from releasing it still after this much time, they probably would have just put the whole thing online on torrents or something and given it away. I know artists do want to be rewarded for their work and will go the distance to receive that reward, but if that distance means having your album basically sit there for years, I think very few of them would sit there and accept it. At least, I wouldn't.

I think that probably, the current rendition of what they're planning on releasing was most likely finished sometime in 2010 and is still going through publishing processes. If there really is something complete there at the moment, it'll probably be out either very soon or sometime next year. That's just my feeling about it.

Also, I feel very strongly (and keep in mind, I'm not in any way, shape or form tied to BoC) for some strange, gut reason that when it does come it'll be in the silence of the night and with little more announcement than the black box being filled in with info and purchasing links. The black box, as vague as it is, was your press release. Nothing to me seems more representative of the current state of BoC, in the new 10's decade, than this sort of behavior. It's almost a stroke of genius. As simple as it is, it shows me Mike and Marcus are apparently still thinking in that reclusive and cryptic mindset that drove the BoC we know and love, like Geogaddi and MHTRTC.

Also, I'm less concerned with what it is they release at this point.

I honestly would still be immensely excited if BoC only released a 20 minute EP with 4 tracks. I would be happy that people who are nothing more than normal human beings, no different than us, took any time whatsoever to produce music for our listening, when they are by no means obligated to.

Although, I would appreciate not having radio silence for 5 years next time around. Status updates work pretty well.

shockwave files referenced in the BOC page

Thu Nov 10, 2011 8:02 pm

I can't tell if these are outdated pieces of content on the Discography page, but when I looked at the page source it referenced two shockwave files that don't appear to do anything on the page, yet exist on the server.

Here are the links:
http://www.boardsofcanada.com/audio/06f.swf
http://www.boardsofcanada.com/audio/06m.swf

Has anyone taken notice of these before?

Yes, it has been known and debated to death ;)

As the time goes since the appearance of the black box, that's what I also tend to think. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to innovate on the way they release their album. They're not marketers, and they already said that they don't like this habit of everyone knowing everything about what their artists are doing.
How amazing would it be if for example they just give us a link to buy the album online, without any information about it except the price. We'd discover the name of the album, the cover and the tracklist by ourselves, when receiving the package. Maybe they'd even do like Radiohead did with their In Rainbow album, with the free-or-donate thing. But that's really unlikely, I think I'm just tired of waiting so I'm having really dumb ideas.

I reckon when it does arrive, it will be by pretty regular methods, without much fanfare and more, "Hi, here's the new Boards of Canada album" on Warp, ignoring the issue of the long wait. There'll be CD and Vinyl, perhaps a nice deluxe gatefold. Schedule wise, I predict a spring 2012 release.
As for anyone "beyond caring" about them by that point, I seriously doubt it. Every Boards of Canada fan will rush out and by it of course, no matter how impatient or bitter some fans might sound. If My Bloody Valentine announced a new album next week, I'd be there buying it. I'm not particularly phased by artists taking a break, if I like the music, I'll buy it.

Sounds good to me.

By the way, I was just listening to the "Midas Touch" remix, and I heard a line that pre-Twoism BoC-hunters can relate to: "No one's ever found the treasures told to be." ;)

Hexagon members have only said the same thing.....new music from BOC is coming.
