As a BoC fan, I just find it annoying to see the band being used in order to market some software that produces the kind of sound that they go out of their way NOT to produce themselves.

Anyway, again I have managed to steer the conversation of a thread completely off topic

^ it has always been like that though - I've got a recording of an old (I presume) radio ad from the mid/late 60s the "Vox Wah-Wah pedal!" where the super-formal voice over lists the bands you can sound like by using the pedal*.

Back on topic - I've decided that not only do I intend to avoid leaks, but I'm steering clear of pre-orders and downloads. I will walk to Avalanche Records in Edinburgh (hopefully in the sunshine) and buy a physical copy from my local indie record shop. Retro.

* - the ad is great though; it uses the Electric Prunes' "I had too much to dream last night" and has a fantastic voiceover - "you can even make your guitar sound like a SITAR!" *cue droning sitar effects*. I've included it on many a compilation...

Maybe so, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.

Haha fair play man. I just don't think I could not listen to it if we get given a digital copy before the 10th. I would have to listen to it. Would be nice to hear it for the first time on vinyl though for sure.

why do you want to sound like someone else

I see your point, but, well, BoC became so amazing and special exactly because they managed to "sound like someone else", you know? Of course, fuzzy and stretchy 70's recordings aren't exactly the hottest shit with the most hits on YouTube, but still, replication is part of their magic.

But I can understand you, mostly. I think it's sad that people go to such lengths to capitalize on other people's successes. By that, I mean the people who're selling the "magical BoC machine!", not the people who want to use it. Ok, so it isn't a "magical BoC machine" and they aren't exactly selling it, but it's marketed as such and it could as well be.

Who cares though, folks? Good things deserve to serve as inspiration and be emulated. If someone can do something with some of the same sounds BoC uses, and do it anywhere near as well, I want to hear that. The sandison bros. aren't the only truly inspired artists around, and while I appreciate their vision and approach to this and the legacy it's left, it doesn't bother me that someone else would want to draw on that. Let them try.

I hear you. I guess it's just the idea of a 'BoC filter effect' that annoys me. It's a bit like photography. You are not a talented photographer just because you can use instagram.

Agree, I was thinking of Instagram / all smartphone vintage apps as well. Maybe I should make an BOCapp - Gives you portamentoed grainy song accompanied by optional childrens voices pasted over an included selection of retro educational films from the 70s...You will actually turn into BOC by using it!....Don't you think about ripping my business idea Tycho!!

The funny part here is that Beatport nor most of us do not have any idea how the new album will sound like. Every BOC album has taken new steps musically. What synths / techniques or filters they use are still only the last finnish and one small part of their music. I wonder if they teach you how to implement golden ratios in your songs, do research into cults or rearrange the a-team them tune into something completely different...?

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I think a lot of musicians on this board have been influenced in one way or another by BoC, even if their sound is a lot different.

If 90% of Gemini is made up of the sound of static I'll be a little disappointed  . I do enjoy the eerie droning chords that come in though. Hypnotic.

The track on the video is considerably longer though... . Other than that it perhaps could be an intro. I still have a feeling the music on the video was specifically made only for the video's purpose, not something that will appear on the album.

In other news, a dude over at WATMM claims he knows someone who has been invited to a press-only listening party of the album in Berlin.

"I know a guy who knows a guy who is one of the press-people invited to a listening-party of the album. Guess I'll have some 2nd hand feedback soon-ish..."

"When is the listening-party? Where? How many people will be there?"

"Apparently Berlin. They're being all secretive to prevent leaks, the guy may even have to sign some papers that he doesn't record anything (speculation).

This sounds like a wind-up but I'm actually for real - if he tells (about the album's style, whether it's an Ambient-release or not), I'll tell."

I don't think they would make Gemini 4 minutes of static xD.

unless...you know.....

the last song on the album was ALSO static, and you had to play them BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. O.O

It bothers me that there is even speculation that this might be an ambient release. Is this all from the transmission audio, or are there other rumors?

Well, the iTunes listing has "Influences: Brian Eno" but that's about all I can think of.

And someone posted the other week a qoute from one of the brothers saying the next album will come as a shock to everyone and no one will expect it. That obviously does not mean it will be an ambient release, but it did start seeping into my mind re: the shock factor. And the Amazon teaser review uses the phrase "mind-bending melodic creations"- which sounds amazing btw and does not also mean it will be ambient.

Regardless, I'm ready and excited for ANYTHING!

Well the point was that BEAMSRECORDS are giving away Tomorrow's Harvest posters with pre orders of the CD. So i asked them if I can get them sent internationally and they said no
