A couple of years ago we decided to start collating and cataloging all our early recordings, just for ourselves really, to know that we could tidy it all up and hand it on to our kids someday, but there are literally thousands of tracks going way back into the ’80s.

Well, guess that joking in another thread about their kids trading off old tapes in the lunchroom is a little more valid now...

If I had to pick something in particular, maybe the texture of the strings in “Semena Mertvykh.” It was performed into a dissected VHS deck with the motor running super slowly, so you can hear all the pockmarks, the dropouts on the tape. It’s mono, too, which gives it something special. More people should record in mono these days.

HOLY CRAP

My first thought hearing this track, was that it had some sort of VHS-related processing thrown into it. I am quite pleased with myself at the moment.

EDIT - I also support recording in mono 8)

Yeah, it sounds exactly like the end credits to some 80's scifi film on VHS.

Also:

"More people should record in mono these days."

made me laugh

I've been listening to TH nonstop and love it very much, but it sounds like they are back into teasing the existence of their unheard tunes, Geogaddi era style. Hope dangling this over our heads like a juicy steak is preamble for a box set! Either that, or their kids will sign off on getting it released when we're in our 70s... :/

"what are you plans for the future?"

Why isn't that question asked?

1. It's considered rude in the music press business for some reason
2. The interview made a massive, massive error by not asking a very important question
3. He asked, and they declined to answer and requested nothing about it was printed

recording audio signal into old vhs decks and back again... interesting wobbly mono hardcore

was just thinking there, this vhs theme etc. those clues from the cosecha trail etc, snow / synthesizer / etc etc wonder was 'snow' referring to the noise of no signal we get on tv screens?

i don't think any of those 6 clues were debunked or were they?

these lads have mountains of music, imagine hearing all of that

Extremely analytical? Us? Nooooo, never!

They are surely reading our analysis and tittering at our darkened fumblings for meaning and reason…

At this point I was grinning ear to ear

just for ourselves really, to know that we could tidy it all up and hand it on to our kids someday, but there are literally thousands of tracks going way back into the ’80s.

Grin instantly disappeared. Oh well, still cool though.
