pop at 2:01. who cares. its what vinyl would sound like anyways. i dont find the remaster is any good anyways. muddled in the 200 - 500 range. too bassy. the bass in the right channel of seeya later feels pushed to the center more and is overpowering.

ill take the original any day. it has that "pillow for your ears" feeling.


edit: im in the proc of cutting out the same segment from all three. the orig, the remaster and the re-remaster. and instantly you can see a HORRIBLE difference. louder doesnt mean better guys.

1 is clearly more pleasing to the ears. the others, they have boosted, compressed and fucked with the stereo field. remaster one is crappy, and two crappier still with the addition Nailfucks pop.

VERY notable in those cans. i ran the sample through my PS1000's....and its blatant.

Louder doesnt mean worse either. I hate the loudnesswars just as much as the next guy, but its very audible (and apperant in your picture) its mixed louder, not compressed louder. All of the original dynamics are still there...

Lets look at the classic loudness-war example of micheal jackson:


notice how the dynamics are pretty much dissapearing.

Now look at your picture again. They did a splendid job.

note the lack of headroom. and the peaks and valleys have diminished greatly. hence more squashed sound.

Aw man re it looks like you're right. June 9th clips out over 90 times. Nlogax isn't far behind with like over 60. It gets better w/the later tracks but...man how hard is it for engineers to not clip? We've done better remasters than that.

cupz, or re-phaelam-ed, I've researched it before but I still need to spend more time understanding the loudness wars...

so records started being produced to sound louder and as a result dynamic range is lost. why would this mix get 'louder' yet still retain the dynamic range? can you kind of distill an explanation of the difference between compressing more and mixing loud?

loudness = the overall volume of the track
while
dynamic range = the range between the highest and lowest peaks.

this issue is...as you raise the volume of the track, you raise the lowest peak and cut off the highest. in turn reducing that dynamic range.

maintain headroom, maintain the ability to have a great range. headroom does not have anything to do with loud, but it does have everything to do with allowing an greater range of sound.

you just gotta turn it up....but thats what the volume knob on your stereo is for.

to my ears....the first sample in the link i posted on SOUNDCLOUD is MUCH more appealing. like an ear massage. while sample two make my left ear feel like its plugged and the the third sample make my right ear feel plugged.

I find the whole loudness wars thing incredibly aggravating, especially in an age where music can now be considered completely disposable and without value. Labels complain of falling sales, but the primary consumer base for said labels are delivered peaking, distorted shite and they wonder why people illegally download?

At least some labels out there are doing it right..

I just slit the plastic on the open side and peeled it off and am playing this record finally. After a total shit work month I have a good space to play this thing and it is beautiful. Perfect so far. Very strange to have a color image on the cover. Its slick and the text looks like it was scanned and then laid out in high quality, which is very strange!

The color poster of presumably Marcus gives this release interesting context
