So a lot of the focus on the track '1969' goes to the references to the Branch Davidians. I've been browsing boc pages and it says there that the date 1969 has little to do with the movement. I've listened to the piece forwards and backwards and these are some of my thoughts about new things that could be intentional or not.

Marcus was born in 7/21/1971
Mike was born in 6/1/1970
1969, In the sunshine. 1969, in summer.

But I've gotta say that this isn't the biggest reveal I experienced with the song.

I browsed some of the comments in the reversed version and a lot of people have suggested a found meaning.

Lyrics "Although not a follower of Hserok Divad, she's a devoted Branch Davidian."
, from the section, "Although not a follower of Hserok Divad", sounds in reverse "David Koresh founded/funded Boards of Canada."

I'm sorry if this has been discussed or observed here before, I just thought that it would be a nice addition to the boc pages.

You think that they heard the phrase 'although not a follower of...' and somehow knew that it would sound vaguely like 'funded boards of canada' when reversed, so they decided to sample it? It would be virtually impossible to hide a backwards message in forwards speech anyway, but for this to be done unintentionally by someone and then discovered by chance by someone else, and it just so happened to be the exact message they wanted to convey.. it's ridiculously unlikely.

It's cool that you're looking into it, but yeah this is a reach.

Can this be the thread where crazy things are speculated in general?

Album announcement 9/27
New single 10/30 or 10/31
New album 11/22 or 11/25

So I'm only posting in this old thread to say I just now discovered the "David Koresh founded Boards of Canada" bit. It's uncanny how clear it sounds in reverse. WOW!

Living in Texas most my life the Waco incident still sits heavy in my memory.

That's fantastic. It seems like they found what certain lines sounded like in reverse and actually phonetically recreated them by singing/recording them backwards. I used to try similar things whilst bored when I was younger, like learning to say Simpsons backwards and then recording/reversing it with weirdly interesting results.

There is a lot to be said for learning something (musical) in reverse and then reversing it.

It's the first time I hear about this and to me it does sounds like it's saying that, however it's not the "although not a follower of..." bit but to me it sounds like another voice higher in pitch saying it.

Did you know that 1969 first showed up on the Acid Memories album as "Growing Hand" but on that album it was slower and at a lower pitch.

That would be interesting, how do you know that?

EDIT: Apparently there's a lot of youtube videos of Growing Hand that are actually 1969. Are you sure you didn't listen to a fake version?

The Manson cult/murders are the first thing that comes to mind for 1969. Nothing mentioned on Bocpages though.

1969 in the sunshine rhymes so I reckon that's all it's meant to be. I don't think everything needs to mean something

I mean they did say that 1969 referenced something important in the history of a religious group. Not everything needs to mean something, but this does, and with BoC in general things do tend to have significance.

1969 in the sunshine. The freedom of thought hippy mentality really did shine in 1969. David Koresh was a radically free thinker. He was not afraid to go against the grain of society and create his own way of living. The entire concept of this man and what he did is incredibly interesting from many standpoints, whether social, psychological, religious, etc... Taking such a theme like this and making music with it really worked out as a brilliant piece of art.

The whole album really feels like a psychedelic revelation. I've definitely had those moments of revelation while on psychedelics/hallucinogens where it's almost like your mind sits in front of a multimedia system designed to teach you something specific. You are walked through the logic and inner workings of whatever subject in a very abstract, yet very personal and direct way. Although being abstract, the nature of the reveal is based on your own subconscious. That's why you understand very well, despite how strange the explanation might be to someone else. And also why I usually would forget the explanation, but remember the lesson.
It feels like Boards of Canada have captured or created one of those psychedelic lessons (or conveyances of a theme/idea) and we hear it every time we listen to Geogaddi. Tough to understand because it's based out of the abstraction of their minds, not ours. The same connections can still be made. Alternate connections can be made. Many possibilities could result as to each persons unique subconscious. They have their own connections as to the music and it's intentions. If they told us the originally implied meaning, it would immediately ruin any other connections that COULD be made by other people. So they have never and likely will never tell us the meaning behind Geogaddi.

The dots appear scattered, but when you connect the dots, a picture appears.
If you see the solution, there is 1 picture.
If you do not see the solution, the same dots are there but a different picture results for each person.

Amen, brother. Always had a bit of a similar feeling for this album and their tunes -- The last bit especially, which I think applies to abstract art in general, especially pieces that are working on a cerebral/emotional/primal level...
