This is most likely old news but when did http://www.boardsofcanada.com start redirecting to https://warp.net/artists/91407-boards-of-canada instead of their Bleep page?

Wish I could say it's changed, but it's always done that. it's without the "www." that redirects to the bleep page.

So uhhh— Warp’s 822nd release looking full of potential…

Man another new announcement and yet no IDM.

Did Warp/BOC forget they were the top purveyor of the genre in the 90s or are they still planning a release this year that will blow our minds? I hope it's the latter even if currently I feel the former.

Didn't they say we would never expect what they would do next, or never see it coming.
Can y'all help me quote that interview. Honestly sometimes I think the interviews are what is the most telling of their next direction, a kind of "Past Inside The Present" type of thing.

New album very soon.

The band has at least one new member who will be named. Have we considered this?

Since when is Clark not considered IDM?

Alright. My bad. I didn't think he was straight up IDM like Autechre or BOC but I stand corrected. Disregard that thought

2023 it is then :P

November 2005: "The Last Secret of Pop" by Koen Poolman. ISSN 0921-1616

Dutch (original):
Uitdagingen genoeg, voorlopig.

English (translated):
For the time being, enough challenges. They've got plans for projects of their own. They're in negotiations for a soundtrack to a big film. They've already begun a new lp (they have a contract for another three albums with Warp). Mike: "The next album shall come as a shock to everyone. Nobody will expect this from us." And there really are plans for some live performances with a band in the new year. But that rumour went around three years ago as well. They've kept silent since.

Pro tip: use this wiki page to do CTRL+F keyword searches on. All the text from every interview on bocpages (87) is shown on this single page. I searched for "shock" and immediately found the quote.

So... ahem... TCH... that is one... TH is another... no soundtrack, no live performance, and what was said might have been from 2002 if you read that 2005 interview as rumour that is three years old as mentioned.

Well, I mean... JWST eventually launched, like three centuries beyond the original date planned... it DID overdeliver...

I can only hope the boys do the same, 'cause man, the music scene has not only changed since TH, it has been overturned completely.

Maybe due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the band was accidentally swallowed by a small dog...

Bloody hell, listen to some Clark!
Body Riddle is a cracker of an album, up there with the top "IDM" albums for me, and there is gold on every release of his.
Fans of Aphex and Boc tend to bypass people like Clark and even Plaid, yes they're less mysterious and cool aside the music and you won't tend to get fan obsessed with them like Aphex and Boc but musically the are up on the top tier with their contemporaries. melodically, complexity etc etc. So yeah, while waiting dive in and find some other stuff.
Body Riddle for Clark and Spokes for Plaid, will take a couple of listens but both are top of the pile. Spokes is level pegging with Geogaddi for me and that is literally the peak.

100%. Not to mention other contemporaries such as Bibio, Casino Versus Japan, Freescha, Marumari, Coppice Halifax, Deadelus, Floating Points, Four Tet, Golden Panda, Kodomo, Locsil, Oneohtrix Point Never, Satoshi & Makoto, Shigeto, Shlohmo, Teebs, Mount Kimbie, etc.

You misunderstood I'm afraid. This interview is a Campfire Headphase interview. The next album refers to the one after Campfire obviously. In this case it could've been they referred to Tomorrow's Harvest, but maybe the "shock album" was scrapped altogether and replaced with Tomorrow's Harvest. We don't know that. We do know that right after Campfire got released they already had the title Tomorrow's Harvest and its theme ready. That's mentioned in another interview. So maybe that IS their shock album after all? Also it's kinda a soundtrack to a non-existent movie. Speaking of soundtracks. They were in fact aiming to do the TRON soundtrack before it went to Daft Punk. So there is truth to that statement.

The rumour that went about three years ago is about the live performance. That indeed still didn't happen alas.

Maybe I haven't read all the Sandison interviews yet, and I'm a cheeky beggar asking to know, but where's that Dafte le Punke/BoC soundtrack news come from?

Oops, I meant the TRON soundtrack of course that eventually got handed over to Daft Punk. Was a bit too quick there. :)

I wonder if the "shock album" was that it was going to incorporate vocals? It always felt like the whole thread with Solange was the beginnings of something that got backed away from. I wasn't the keenest on those tracks but only cos the vocals felt kinda pasted onto something already finished... I'd have loved to have heard something written with the vocals in mind from the get-go. The remixes they've done and the production on Sometimes... a vocal album from them might really work, you know?

But yeah, if they had the Tomorrows Harvest theme so soon after TCH then its hard to put those two ideas together in a way makes sense.

A vocal album could definitely work yes. But has to be all from scratch indeed. Exciting thought!

Some TH quotes:
"Marcus Eoin: "We took some time out, and spent some time travelling. Then we expanded our studio space a great deal, and these things take time. But we're always working, all the time, whatever else is going on. So we'd begun sketching out things for this record straight after the last one, and got heavily into tying it all up last year.""
https://bocpages.org/wiki/We%27ve_Become_a_Lot_More_Nihilistic_over_the_Years

"Michael: "We began by making sketches, right after the release of the Trans Canada Highway EP in 2006. We then lived in the US for a couple of years and really began working on it two years ago. In the meantime we spent time raising our children, but we didn't do any work outside of Boards Of Canada." "We're both very interested in politics and other global affairs. Since 2005 we wanted to do something with the fact of overpopulation in the world and also the darker side that our society is progressively sliding into. "

Sketches 2006. Heavy work 2011. Release 2013. And no other jobs. What a life.

The brothers are either calculated or compulsive liars. I wouldn't quote their interviews.
