A few things of note:

Tape 05 seems to correspond with the Warp Selections “5” and “12” timestamps for either track (flower and sun)

The first 30 seconds of the Tape 05 video seem to have a closeup of the Whitney Houston face and many other images flash by if you scrub by frame. I swear there’s another black-eyed Houston early in the actual video segments too. I believe I possibly saw the melting face from the Indiana Jones scene but it’s too hard to make out when I’m scrubbing on a phone— when I get home I can’t wait to dissect each frame!
Ooooo, it's pink!

I'm not one for reaction videos but I did watch one earlier (Dayvan Cowgirl's) and it was fantastic. Heartfelt, emotional and everything that ran through my mind when I watched it earlier too. Watching someone else witness and fall headfirst into that euphoric experience for the first time was as good as experiencing it myself.

Interviewer: So what have you been up to for the past 13 years?

BOC: The album has been done for 6 years but we've been scouring the lands all this time to find a specific harp for a spot on the Tape 05 track.

The hiatus was probably just them learning new instruments.

We are probably getting bagpipes and accordions as well.

Lols would be so cool if they released an instrumental mix of their music, even better if they did live gigs using analogue instruments!! Bagpipes, accordions, weird ancient instruments …dead can dance style

Fitting tonight that Riley & Coe (6Music) acknowledged playing the Peel Session this week, “…with rumours abounding”.

Always had Gideon Coe down as a fan, and I seem to think he’s played Olsen in the past 6 months on the show.

Anyway, they’ve finished off with New Seeds, and seeing as the show is a pre-record tonight, they’ must have had a heads up.

A guitarist named Landon Lechner has already transcribed and recorded a version of the track from Tape 05 - excellent, posted on the BOC Reddit. Similarly, for any BOC fans who like both Autechre and acoustic guitar, check out what Shane Parish recently released. His LP Autechre Guitar is stunning.

I saw some speculation a few (many at this point) pages back in the thread about the sound quality of the track. If it is indeed true that they did some sort of "generation loss" to the vhs tapes before sending them out, I wonder if Tape 05 refers to the fact that maybe this was the fifth pass of it? And so the tapes that were mailed out were probably like tape "30" or something lol.

Not sure it fits though, because the video quality is still fantastic. Just a thought.

I am not sure that is the case.

I think, based on the voices in the original tapes and lack of discernable music, that this is different, clearly less effected & longer version of the tapes mailed out. They may well have done multiple versions and the one uploaded today may be version/tape 5 out of however many they made.

It may well indicate there are many versions that we will never see (until they get handed down to their kids and they release them) lol.

You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this; Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I've been a fan since i think 2011/2012ish, I haven't felt this excited for a new album release in many years. Been keeping a close eye on this forum, BoCpages and the subreddit over the last week or two!

I'm going on a big overseas holiday next week and so glad I have this new track to listen to and tie memories to that I'll think back on for decades. It's a beautiful track that gets better with each listen! Can't wait to see what's next.

I've checked in every now and then to this thread, but thank you to those who kept it alive for the past 13 years!

Got together with my partner 13 years ago around the time TH came out. 13 years later this happens as soon as I file for divorce. What a strange timeline to be part of.
