Yo mods, is there any way to install a dark mode for Twoism?

I would so love a dark mode for our beloved forum, at night all my other usual haunts have the option of turning one on, or at least respond to the OS's dark mode preference, but then I click onto Twoism and OMFG MY RETINAS.

I know it's a first world problem but I just wondered if it was something the forum software had built in that maybe just needs enabled?

It is but for me it's god awful on the eyes also, mainly due to the text colours being too similar to the background colours. I'm in it right now and can barely read what I'm typing.

It should be as simple as this....

Download: Find a dark mode extension in the official phpBB Customisation Database and download the .zip file.

Extract: Unzip the file on your computer.

Upload: Use an FTP client (like FileZilla) to connect to your web server. Upload the extracted folder into the ext/ directory of your phpBB installation. (Make sure you follow the folder structure dictated by the extension author, usually ext/author_name/extension_name).

Enable: Log into your forum's Admin Control Panel (ACP).

Navigate to the Customise tab.

Under Extension Management, find the new dark mode extension in the list of disabled extensions and click Enable.

And no, it’s not that easy… It would be fine if Twoism didn’t have a custom layout and if the forum software were up to date. But as you can read here, work is underway .

There’s also such a thing as brightness and contrast. Because if you’re worried about your eyes hurting, you’d be better off adjusting your monitor settings, as even a dark theme can be less healthy if they’re not right.

The old blue one is available I believe?

My only qualm with the old blue one is that when I hover my cursor over text when typing a reply, the cursor is damn near invisible from how close the 2 shades are

woah, really?! the newer theme is awesome but i always have a soft spot for ol' blue - how do i get to it?! i've trawled the user control panel but never saw it

In the UCP, go to Board Preferences, then in Edit Global Settings there should be a choice for My Board Style

TIL i'm blind. thanks RH! got it turned on now. it's a solid in-between! old meets new. miss the old icons though. not sure i can be bothered trying to make some fix to change them on my side though

Yeah I've been using blue forever. And the mobile version of it on mobile.

I tend to prefer dark themes generally so if there were an even darker one I'd use it but I mean only if it's no bother for the mods to set it up.

Ah, awesome, I wasn't aware of that thread, I just donated what I can afford just now to help out.

Also, very interesting, I am sure I have heard of these 'brightness and contrast' concepts before

I was just being lighthearted, obviously I do turn down my brightness for Twoism but I initially forget and it's like staring into the sun (another joke just to be clear). Great to hear there's plans afoot to improve things, in the meantime I'll STFU and ride that brightness slider.

Yeah, blue on my phone for sure. Once upon a time, we did have an inverted colour scheme for the red and white version. Some basically black and turquoise (kind of). I loved it, but it was only temporary as I recall.
