That's marketing, and I'm sure it's done with the best intentions of "this will do best if we release it this way" but I disagree with that opinion
I hate it all of the thinking that surrounds this personally. Totally disagree with using art as a commodity like this. Very disrespectful to fans. I get they have a business to run, but lets ask our selves what that business is really doing in the first place. The artists, they are really the bread makers. Not all this marketing crap. You can market a bad act all you want, look at the early 2000s for proof of this. Do we remember anybody from those magazines anymore?
If BoC, one of WARP's top artists asked if they could release MORE music. WARP are not going to tell them to wait in line for years.
Artists have a right to make money and be supported too if that is what they so wish. BoC could release an album every 3 years, release best of compilations and push merch far more than they do if they wanted to make more money from fans.
Instead, they release as and when they feel like it for whatever reason. Neither way is invalid but BoC are certainly not money grabbing. They probably make enough to be comfortable, enjoy life and take time with their art but certainly won't be 'rich' - at least from their music.
Warp have worked out well for them in the past, they may have had a contract and maybe maybe simply can't be bothered handling the business side of things themselves and trust WARP will manage it when the music is ready.
