So what? If I think it sounds great, that's what matters, not where it comes from.

That swirly noise features in the intro to the live version of the color of the fire too. I'm pretty certain it's a sample from Oxygene Part II by Jean Michelle Jarre. Anyone else think so or not?

I don't know about Oxygene Part 2, but in Music Has the Right to Children they use a lot this swirly sample (An Eagle in your Mind, Rue the Whirl...) which kinda sounds like that sound on Oxygene Part 1...

the color of the fire and turquoise hexagon sun things sound more like some kind of mallet, because instead of the tail being flat, it resonates more, like a vibraphone. i think its programmed, because just the other night i programmed pretty much the same sound and played out THS, it was pretty cool. but, yeah, my guess is a programmed mallet-type thing and then they use a couple tape tricks to age it down. i am very fascinated by it though, its so simple but very very beautiful. funny enough, its been stuck in my head for that past couple days and now i read this subject, heh.
