I think that Boards Of Canada are very philosophic in their approach, no deffinitive answers and leave us open for interpretation. Everything from track names, to different subjects in their tracks (political, philosophical, spiritual etc) to their interview makes me think that they are very deep philosophers. Boards Of Canada is like a deep abyss, the more I dig into their tracks the more I find, always new views on them. So whats my point? My question is, wouldn't it be interesting with a book (a book like Brian Enos diary and essays maybe) from either Marcus or Michael? I would be the first in line to buy a book written by Boards Of Canada.

eehhhhh they're great musicians, maybe the best out there but come now dear Archrival should we really be obsessing over them and thier personal thoughts and opinions?

BoC's music speaks to people on a much deeper level than any book could describe. Personally, I think a book like that would almost cheapen the experience because it would force them to label their music and put very specific boundaries on what each song means. I think it would suck if I had an image or a feeling in my head when listening to a specific song by them, only to read that no, it's about something else entirely. That's not how they operate.

Now a book of pictures and artwork to accompany an album, I'd be fine with something like that.

i think the guys are so talented that i would enjoy a release from them in any media, especially film. but a book, essay, or any writing would also be very neat.

I would be up for that. I love not just their music/art, their basis for their music/art and would like to know more of what goes on in their brilliant minds. I'm sure it would be very inspiring. I've always felt a strange connection to their music, as if they have been watching me and making music that describes my life. So I'd love to find out how alike their thinking is to mine. By no means am I saying I would ever be any close to the talent they have, but just their neuro-structure.

I do agree with ryetronics, however the book would not be on their music, but their ideas more the like. And not their ideas within their music released, but just their thoughts and ideas in general with a little background. Things like cool realizations they've stumbled upon. Interesting experiences that have molded their thoughts.

To be quite frank, I feel connected enough to their music that if they sold potpourri, I'd probably buy it.

furthermore: i kinda agree with oyster. not to be insulting in any way, but i don't really find mike and marcus' personal lives or random opinions that interesting. they seem to just be a couple of regular, if gifted, dudes to me.

and by that i don't mean...that nobody should obsess over them. but just that i personally can't guarantee i'd be interested in a book by them. i'd probably pick it up since it's related to my favorite music collection, yes, but i couldn't guarantee i'd enjoy it, cuz i'm pretty much just interested in the music. again, no offence to the bros.

a film by boc would be, i don't know. i can see it being a little too much to handle stoned, you know? those guys have crazy psychedelic imaginations.

I don't want to be unkind but you have to be pretty silly and irrational to look at them as anything other than musicians. They didn't become successful in the music scene for philosophy they never said. All the extra concepts tied to BoC were created by crazed fans! Guys, stop thinking BoC has stuff to say, because you are the ones saying it! Don't you get it? You guys are the philosophers, why don't you write the book?

I do agree with this. I would in no way ask them to write a book. I just think it would be cool if they did. I want them to do what they want, not what I want, that's a large thing that separates them from so many other artists.

However, I am gung-ho for the potpourri idea.

Oviously Boards Of Canadas music triggers thoughts and ideas in my mind and often (the good music atleast) instrumental music says more than thousand words...humans are emotional and BOC triggers deep emotions that makes you think about what this life really is (aint that philosophy) "Satellite Anthem Icarus", loves these names and themes from BOC that fits so well with the music and the colors and textures of the music. I know LOL Alzado would be one of the first in line to buy a book by BOC and you know it aswell! :P

Ofcourse tho I would rather buy a new album! ofcourse!

BOC aren't writers. They are musicians. Their music they release isn't a demonstration of their personal opinions. It is music for us to interpret. You don't know BoC by listening to their music. Their music has no words and all of that extra mumbo-jumbo you are tagging onto it is a figment of your over-analyzation. The stuff you are getting from BoC's music is not negative, but you are attributing it to BoC themselves when you should realize your thoughts are your own!!

The connection you are making between making thoughtful, yet abstract music, and organized philosophy is skewed. The very fact that nothing in BoC's music is directly implied obviously means they are leaving interpretation up to you. Once again, you are the philosopher for coming up with ideas, BoC just made the music!

SO, BOC AREN'T TRYING TO BE PHILOSOPHERS, THEY ARE TRYING TO MAKE MUSIC!!
