Hi-Scores off the Skam records Skampler compilation, which also has Everything You Do Is A Balloon on it, in 1997. Was blown away by those two tracks. Soon after that MHTRTC came out which reinforced my fanboy love of the Sandison brothers.

I know that there was a thread about the first one that you heard in this year...but what about of all time?

Also, where did you hear it, when did you hear it, and what was your first impression of it?

For me, the first one I ever heard was Roygbiv, and I thought that it was one of the best things I had ever heard in my life. It was hosted on an internet site that is no longer existing, and it was only two years ago. Relativly, I haven't known about them for a long time, but I feel like it's been longer, almost as if I had been listening to them for years.

Aquarius was my first introduction to BOC.

Found Geogaddi while researching Canada for a school project back in middle school, nothing has been the same since.

'98 or '99. I was downloading music and stumbled upon a release by Boards of Canada. I remember it as chill out trip-hop. I was a student at that time. I didn't pay much attention to it as I was constantly downloading stuff and listening to new music.

Later at around 2001 I was living in Scotland. I met some friends who were experimenting with several samplers and chopped beats through filters and delays with an ancient Macintosh. One day someone came up with the idea to listen to some cool stuff they get inspired from. It was BoCs "MHTRTC". Then I remembered the atmosphere of the album I had listened to back in '99. It was "Twoism".

tomisnever, that is so cool if thats true, haha.
I was gonna say how I was reading up on "electronic" music, found a review on boc, became intrigued, downloaded aquarius and said meh, interesting, lets try one more, downloaded sixtyten and said WOW this is crazy awesome.

but really, it was actually two years prior to that, at a friends house, he showed me a clip of Salad fingers, which featured "beware the friendly stranger". Weird.

Wildlife Analysis in May of 1998 along with the other 17 tracks of MHTRTC. Hate to be pretentious but it changed how I listed to music forever.

one day in the spring of 2003, a friend of mine was on slsk and played, "ready let's go," as geogaddi finished downloading. i remember feeling surprise and intrigue. it was like nothing else i'd heard before.

i asked for the cd, took it home and cranked my baby advent ii's. that was great.

towards the end of autumn that same year, i visited atomic records and spied some boards of canada albums in the corner of the shop, mixed up with all the other electronic vinyl. picked up geogaddi and a beautiful place. never hearing a beautiful place before, i was skeptical. however, something inside me said that i had to.

that's when the rest is history...

It was Turquoise Hexagon Sun.

Basically, I saw the trippy album cover to MHTRTC and thought "I guess I'll listen to that." It happened really casually, and basically I just picked a song from the album to listen to first to get a "feel" for the band. I thought THS had a kickass name, so I listened to that first.
