No gigs nor any commercial lameness? I'm cool with that.

Although if I were a musician the size of BoC and I knew there were hundreds or thousands of fans eagerly awaiting new material I would probably feel that a website update would be very much in place. I can understand why the brothers like to live in the shadow but putting out your products in mass quantities (as opposed to limited releases) inevitably will generate fans who like to keep up to date.

Ah well, no hard feelings. I bet there's something cooking in the Pentland Hills

i understand your frustration, but what band on the planet puts updates on their website when they're in the middle of recording a new record? nobody!...

*aghum* radiohead?

yeah...and they make it work really well...

Does everyone really want them to let everyone know as soon as they are working on an album? Then we have to listen to 50 shitty threads about speculation for a year or two before it's released. Personally, I think the remix was enough to tell everyone they're still alive and doing something. Who decides to go back into the studio for just a remix?

opinion is clearly divided here, but keeping your website up to date is in order really, ala why??? remix. and i dont know why a certain someone on here is moaning about the website and BoC not having time to it, because i heard that someone maintains the website for them.

and one question for you Najm ad-Din Ayyub, are you a member of hexagon sun? thats all i want to know. if you do not reply i will assume you are only here to flamebait or spread misinformation. i'm not asking you to tell us if you have any specific sources, i just want an answer to the above question. simple YES or NO will suffice.

Just as long as there's enough good music from other artists, they can take as long as they want on a new record.
But I would like an update to tell me when they put the kettle on, I'd love that.

Mike and Marcus don't use a kettle! They use a pan of water which they keep boiling on their Arga.

Anyway, I agree with most of the people on the "just give us something to go on about, for pities sake!" side of the argument. but I've gone past caring about it really. Too many years of nothing and I've got the message: They only tell us when we need to know something.

True, but Najm ad-Din Ayyub is always speaking as if he has inside knowledge. It would be interesting to know if he actually does, or whether he just likes the attention.

It is slightly irritating that BOC rarely announce anything, although I suppose if there isn't anything to announce then there isn't a problem. What is more annoying is when 'officials' come online and say that a boxset is imminent, but it doesn't turn up (as of yet).

As far as their mythos is concerned, I'm sure the fans created it initially. I see nothing wrong with them perpetuating it. After all, they have to do very little in order to do so.

Like this quote from THIS thread...

Najm ad-Din Ayyub wrote:

that's probably just a misunderstanding from something you read. magazine interviews are not the best place to get info right as they're usually pieced together from dictaphone recordings. - i know the band personally - they still do most of their work at the main studio (they have three studios, and i'm doing something for our next record with them at hexagon sun).

i think Ayyub is acting like a condescending asshole. if the brothers hate their fans as much as their friends seem to, then fuck BoC -and- their annoying hexsun friends. i express a simple thought - "i for one am not -more- excited by the oooh so mysterious BoC inactivity because i'm NOT a slobbering desperate fanboy, but rather -less- excited, as a reasonable human being with a life outside music ought to be" and get a response like "you will get your precious, precious fix soon enough you pathetic junkie, till then shut your complain-hole". wow, what a class act.

this particular thread can bite me, i quit. argue about it and whine all you want, but that's my opinion and it stands.

either way...something will eventually come...

as far as i know the release date is not finalised yet so what is there to tell you?!

you obiviously missed my point. i know there isnt a date set. i know there is nothing to report on...so when there is...fuckin tell me. until i will wait in suspense...and i am okay with that. geeze. mr. dialectical

Ok. You've got a point there. But why do they also keep silent about the recent remix good friday by Why? Do they perhaps think this remix is irrelevant rubbish?

I quote their website twice:
February 2005:
Boards of Canada have contributed a remix to Beck's forthcoming album 'Guero'.
The BOC remix of 'Broken Drum' appears on the deluxe 2-disc version of the album, due out on March 29th 2005.

Oct 2003:
BOC have collaborated with cLOUDDEAD on an ultra-psychedelic alternative version of their forthcoming single 'Dead Dogs Two' to be released in January 2004.
The Boards of Canada remix will be available on the 'Dead Dogs Two" 12"
(available on Jan 26th 2004 in the UK/Europe on Big Dada, and on Jan 27th 2004 in the US on Mush.)

Apparently in the past it was important enough to announce their new remixes. Why isn't it important now? (And don't tell my they don't have time to let someone else who manages the website add one line of text to the html code...)
