We've discussed the BoC material, now I want to hear opinions on the rest of the boxset. The other unreleased tracks, the loops, the remixes.

I know it was a vote and everything but Gantz Graf ruins the chosen collection for me. The new Clark is nice. And the remixes of BoC are the best remixes. It seems to me like Mira Calix and Bibio really cared about this project where other artists didn't so much, though this may be a little unfair.

All in all I'm a little underwhelmed by the boxset. The finish could have been much better, not enough atention to detail IMO. Has anyone else noticed the binding edge hasn't been measured properly on the cd sets so the purple stripe isn't wide enough? The photo on the front of my box isn't really central either...

Maybe I should stop moaning...

to be honest i feel that the publicly chosen tracks were really obvious, and thusly a bad choice for this.

I need to have a few more listens but I'm generally quite pleased with the covers CD's, I'm liking the Mira/ Tim Exile/ Mark Pritchard tracks the most. The chosen stuff is utterly pointless because I've either already got it or wasn't interested in the first place. I can't listen to the vinyl ATM so I dunno about those tracks. And that piece of paper is rubbish. The book is nice to look through.

Does anyone know how limited this box is?

When I get it next week I'm gonna play every record exactly once while I record it to wav. Then it goes back into to the box.

nope, there's been no official statement about how many copies exist...and i doubt there will be.

i think Warp are a bit disappointed (and possibly embarrassed) by how little of these were pre-ordered, since they've having to palm off some of the stock onto retail outlets. i really don't think they intended to sell this through shops.

at a guess i'd say there were less than 2500

I won't be getting mine until December since I'm away from home right now, so that kind of sucks. I am pretty excited about it though. The Chosen tracks are kind of important to me, even though I have them already. I like a shitload of music that Warp has put out, and it feels like a lot of the music has sort of marked an era in my life. I associate a lot of songs with certain places and events. I think the box set will be a great piece of memorabilia.

As nice a package as it is, all told, I think it was a bit of a wasted opportunity. I find it hard to believe that over the past 20 years they've only managed to dig out, what, 10 unheard tracks? I would have rather had either:
A) A trimmed down (less expensive) set
B) Instead of the chosen CDs, 2 chosen CDs by the bands/ artists themselves of music they feel is important/ influential (though copyright and stuff would maybe be a bit of a hurdle with that),
or
C) Some random item like a mug or messenger bag or something like that.

These mix CDs don't really float my boat either, this one and the one with the Warpvision DVD are ok, but I doubt I'll ever give them much of a spin unless they come up on shuffle. I'd rather they reissued the original Blech tape on CD.

i admit, i'm not really "feeling" the Osymyso mix cd on this one. the WarpVision mix cd by Buddy Peace and Zilla is much better than this one, in my opinion.

could you update the discogs entry, pasting in the email as evidence?

that'd be awesome :)

edit: it really surprises me there were so many pressings.

Am I the only one who found that a horrible read? Makes some good points though.
