hey
not sure if this warranted a thread of it's own but I just wanted to share something really strange with you and I wondered if anybody else knows what the hell I'm talking about.

ok, so basically my friend and I were walking his dog in a part of the forest thats fairly near to where I live. we walked for about a mile untill we walked into a sort of clearing surrounded by connifers when I got a fucking horrible feeling of dread. I can't describe it, it was just like there was something horribly wrong with the place...which there wasn't. The dog must have felt the same as it started whining and putting it's tail between it's legs and refusing to go any further. My friend simply didn't get the same sensation and got really pissed off at me and told me I was being stupid. It was like there was a presence or something, it just felt evil...fucking weird. I like to think of myself as fairly open-minded to the supernatural and such but....I'm not sure at all...
sorry but I felt I had to share that
anybody ever got the same or a similar thing?

P.S sorry if I come across a raving lunatic

O my God!!!! There's a place in my neighborhood where a satanist church used to be and every time I go by it, I feel like fucking killing myself. I think I feel the same thing you do. Wow...I thought I was the only one. :|

Very interesting man...had this happen several times myself.

When I was little, my family and I were on a road trip. At one point in our drive, all of us got a heavy sense of foreboding like what you described. We decided to turn around and head back up the road a few miles to a hotel we'd passed, just to wait out the night. In the morning, we found out there had a been a huge accident the night before, in the spot we had avoided.

Several years ago, I was hiking around a park with a few friends. We came across a big, abandoned silo in the middle of a field, with a big hole in the side. As we were stepping inside to check it out, I got a terrifying feeling in my gut, and decided not to go in. Later, we found out that someone was brutally murdered in that exact silo just a few year prior.

The last time I felt this way, I was walking with my girlfriend on a trail that lead from a campground we were staying at for the night. There was a big moon overhead, so there was plenty of light to see by, but as we walked, my gal started to get really paranoid and upset, and asked to turn around. I tried to convince her to keep walking, up until I felt the same thing myself. I just about got scared out of my wits...we turned around and quickly made it back to the camp site. When we got home later in the week, I checked out Google Maps to see where that trail went. All that was on the map was a big, black pit in the middle of the woods...looked like either a mining operation or a fucking black hole. Whatever the hell it was, we were about 100 yards away before turning back.

nope

Skytree, that sounds pretty horrible but pretty interesting as well, kinda like a sixth sense telling you to go back or something?

Numerator, many people have described this feeling I think. I've never heard a story where one person totally didn't pick up on whatever the other person was, though. So I don't know. I've heard of this a lot though. It scares me. You never know when you're just going to get that chilling feeling.

my dad bought a house (which I have never visited-yet) in a remote town by the sea, called Wilderness. He bought it knowing that the previous owner, an old man, had killed himself (not in that house though- this was his holiday house that he loved)
My dad's had two guests stay and report feeling like there was a presence in the guest bedroom. One said she thought she saw an old man by the side of her bed. Turns out, what is now the guest bedroom was the old man's main room when he would stay there.

I believe that people can feel energy, if they are open to it. It fascinates me. I'm road-tripping this january, and have had keys to this house offered to me.. though honestly, I dont know if I want to stay there!!

I used to be very very sensitive until I started getting major setbacks in life which forced me to become numb. As a child I could very much feel the mood of a room I entered. When I was in my parents house as a child and I was playing in my room on the first floor sometimes I suddenly got a threatening feeling and I quickly ran downstairs to my parents. I still have that occasionally and I've met other people who experience it too, the sudden feeling that you immediatly have to leave the room. Is it just some stupid psychological phenomena or do you link it to spirituality/the occult?

Somewhat related, when I was about 10 I was playing at a friend and I stayed there for the night. In the middle of the night I went downstairs to the toilet to pee, then I looked into the living room where it was very dark, and I saw my friends mom standing there, very very vaguely, a silhouette. I ran upstairs to where my bed was and I noticed that his mom was also sleeping on the first floor. It was very scary and I still can't explain it.

Only feeling like that I ever felt was in a concentration camp-turned museum in Germany. Very cold, very uninviting, very unpleasant.

Just out of curiosity, did this also apply to anything else, like outdoor places, particular people, etc?

Sure lads...I'll see if I can pull it up from memory. It was one of those campsites that we just found after a long day, so I can't recall the name of it now. But if I trace our route, might have some luck...

Well, sorry to disappoint, but looks like the sat images have been updated since I last looked. It's definitely some kind of open-pit mine or quarry:

http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=47.4 ... 4&t=h&z=16

My guess is that it was full of water when the images I saw were taken, hence the blackness...in which case it looks like it's been drained. You can see the trail heading out of it from the northwest corner...the campground's near the end, right next to the river.

I don't know whether to be reassured or more disturbed
I found out the same clearing where I got the feeling is a popular suicide spot
it seems to make sense though

I knew it! :D That's right over by Wolf Ridge. I spent a weekend there once, orienteering and snow wrestling on the frozen lake sometime after midnight with all 200 of my classmates and science teachers.

Haha...yeah, we do that here in Minnesota. Our town, city and landmark names typically aspire to be Nordic/European, Native American, or sometimes both (to odd effect). I think it's based on some underlying need to have a sense of belonging...either by pretending we live in the Old World or that we were here to begin with. Instead, most of us are just insecure, long-term squatters.

That's some Shining shit right there. It'd be interesting to check the local records and see what else has been there in the past...burial mounds, ahoy.

You wrestled 200 people on a frozen lake? You, sir, win a three wolf moon shirt for outstanding bravery.
