Sorry in advance for the bump, I wanted to post here because I feel it's relevant (and I didn't want to make a new topic for this...)

I was watching a documentary today on Biography, and it was about Maurice and Maralyn Bailey who were lost in the pacific ocean in a life raft for 117 days. In the documentary I saw a picture of them standing together and I swear it looked just like the cover of TCH.

IDK if it has any correlation, but I believe that's where the cover came from.

Damn my heart stopped for a while! But yeah, maybe. It's always cool when I see something that reminds me of covers and stuff.

Sadly no, I saw it while I was at work. I was hoping that maybe someone else saw the documentary.

I checked Biography's schedule and apparently what you saw was an episode from "The Unexplained" called "Bonds of Survival" which was aired in 1999. You should definitely check when it's on again and take a pic because I can't find it online, and there are only a few pics of the couple themselfs.

PS: Nevermind, I looked it up myself. Apparently the first time it was aired at 10 am and the repeat will be (or has been) at 4 pm.

Anyone live near Auburn, NY? They have a copy at the community college...

Or McAllen, TX, they seem to have the full set.

This Worldcat entry looks like it might be the full series, available a lots of libraries (though none near me sadly). Maybe near one of you?

oooh, i never really looked that close at the cover of TCH. interesting.

there seems to be a copy of this show at my library according to your WorldCat suggestion:

"Disc 1. The vampire myth -- Poltergeist -- Disc 2. Extreme sacrifice -- Spontaneous human combustion."

is that just a broad summary of the show, or do i need a different disc? i suppose it doesn't matter yet since i can't check it out at the moment anyway as i owe the lib ~$20 over-dues

EDIT: review also says this: (not sure where life rafts fit in)

Why would someone risk her or his life to save that of a complete stranger? Few things in human behavior are more puzzling than this. The reasons why some people are inclined to such inexplicably brave behavior is the focus of Extreme Sacrifice, part of The Unexplained series on A&E. Case studies of particular sudden heroes are examined, complete with interviews with the principals and witnesses to their actions. Examined in detail are the examples of a young woman who dove into the fast-moving Niagara River to save a stranger, a Secret Service agent who willingly threw himself into the line of fire during the 1981 assassination attempt on President Reagan, and a young Marine in the Korean War who survived throwing himself atop a live grenade to save other soldiers. Interviews with the heroes give some insight into why they would behave the way they did, but what's perhaps more fascinating are interviews with medical researchers who are investigating whether there is a genetic predisposition for risky behavior and heroic actions. Some research indicates that a person's brain structure may destine an individual toward heroic and risky acts. This is a thought-provoking examination of a topic that has long fascinated humanity.

I checked this out just in case it was the 'Extreme Sacrifice' one, but it's not.

If it is indeed from a photo of them, it's not in the book they wrote about their experience "117 Days Adrift" ("Staying Alive!" in the US). Interesting story though; they were quite well prepared and resourceful.

I also thumbed through "Second Change: Voyage to Patagonia", which they wrote about their further adventures after being rescued and building a new vessel, didn't see it there either.

While we're all waiting on news about the forthcoming album, someone should really search for this show and check the photo.
