They still have a contract for 3 more albums with Warp.GRIM.657 wrote:out of curiosity, do boc have any sort of contract with warp?

For them, there is an audience involved (not for all artists, but for them), and they would be kidding themselves if they thought they could ignore the commercial side of it. BoC stopped distributing their music just among their friends for a reason. They took on the responsibility of business and a larger audience. It was their choice. They are not solitary artists. They have an obligation to their audience. I have no idea why they have not given us a solid update in so long. They could have a crap reason; they could have a very good reason. But, the fact remains, we do deserve an update.
You should apply to be a member of the RIAA. They'd love you.
BURN.

Totally. Which is why so many indie artists release their shit for no price, whatsoever, including myself, correct?
And why OOT is released in a download form for free, correct?
I'm sure eveyone is factoring in the "business" portion of their hobby right away.
Oh wait, or maybe it has to do with the greed that develops over time with financial pool you begin to swim in? I highly doubt BoC asserts business over art, which means they've resisted the greed from selling millions of albums.
There are artists who don't, and instead feed into the mainstream and "adjust" (euphemism for "sell out") their style to garner more money....and I don't respect those artists. At all. Way I (and apparently much of this forum) see it, music is purely art, and I for the most part believe art should entirely be hobby, not business.
And considering Radiohead made several million dollars releasing that name-your-price album a few years ago, it's fair to say well-established artists could continue to get by if they all decided to take the same route.
Most of them that get caught up in the mainstream thing become greedy, with the exception of people like Trent Reznor, and bands like Radiohead, which doesn't happen often especially in the rock scene.

It would make sense, since it means that there would be other people helping them out, which could answer the fact that things are "out of the bands control" in regards to a release. That and how they said the next album we will never expect from them.

I'm an idiot. I can't find the translated version on the page.

Don't take things out of context. I meant on the whole. Of course there are tons of musicians that don't even think about the business of music.
Rodheh wrote:My point though was that I highly doubt BoC sincerely is concerned with the business aspect. Are they going to release a name your price album? Most likely not. Do they care about publicity stunt money and tour money? Not at all.

John peel commented that their ability to plan far a head in terms of buissness is "most impressive".
At best your making some educated guesses, but don't confuse their "myth" with reality.
