I completely believe that there is no place or need for a Boc greatest hits cd, but i am very ocd at times and enjoy making these very specific iTunes playlists. I just made one that im calling "This Is BOC". not so much a mix of my favorite songs, but more of what i believe as being thier definitive collection of songs.

1. Sixtyniner
2. Everything You Do is a Balloon
3. Telephasic Workshop
4. Roygbiv
5. Aquarius
6. Orange Romeda
7. Amo Bishop Roden
8. In a Beautiful Place out in the Country
9. Music Is Math
10. Julie And Candy
11. 1969
12. Chromakey Dreamcoat
13. Dayvan Cowboy
14. Macquarie Ridge

just curious if others would agree with the track selection.

This would be mine in no particular order):

1. An Eagle In Your Mind
2. Sequoia
3. 1969
4. Dayvan Cowboy (lets face it, it has to be included on there with its success)
5. Rue the Whirl
6. Aquarius (Version 3)
7. Happy Cycling
8. Amo Bishop Roden
9. Sunshine Recorder
10. Alpha And Omega
11. Chromakey Dreamcoat
12. Orange Romeda
13. Into the Rainbow Vein
14. Live ATP unititled track (the 8-minute one with the droning sound)
15. Tears From The Compound Eye

And as a bonus they should include the Anew Contraption mix. That is by far the best BoC mix (or any mix) I've ever heard. The video is great too. For those who haven't seen it:

I don't want to make a whole list (who reads them anyway). But I think you'd have to cover all BoC's elements. Think of it in terms of what tracks you think would best convey Boards of Canada to someone unfamiliar with them.

"An Eagle in Your Mind" has a good number of those elements. 1969.
Sunshine Recorder.
Roygbiv.
Happy Cycling.

No dayvan? For something to introduce BoC by it would be the first that comes to mind, unless perhaps it is further listening for someone who got into BoCs music via main songs such as that one

Honestly I don't think you can make a more perfect playlist than any of their albums. There should never be a BoC greatest hits because I don't think you just could make a cohesive compilation of their tracks. It's also largely the reason why I don't like Boc Maxima...

Not necessarily my favourite tunes by them but based entirely on the experience of playing them to my wife for the first time...

Kid For Today
Dayvan Cowboy
ROYGBIV
Everything You Do Is A Balloon
Over The Horizon Radar
'84 Pontiac Dream
In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country

Don't want to scare folks too quickly with much off Geogaddi. :D

I think Dayvan Cowboy is more representative of their TCH era, and not BoC themselves.

I think this is impossible for so many reasons specific to Boards Of Canada.

I've taken a stab at something like this many time and I find it impossible. Too many great tracks to narrow it down as much as you guys are.

I've done this before and that is very true, even if you manage to whittle it down to a set of 20 or 30, you always realize you left something out.

I think it would be cool if Mike and Marcus created a list of their personal favorites though.

I think Michael and Marcus would pick a lot more short tracks than we do.

Yeah, I remember reading an interview where they said the short tracks are their personal favourites or something.

I think A Beautiful Place is a perfect introductory EP. Perfectly elegant, beautiful and mature.
