Does anyone know what droney synth Bibio is using at the beginning of "Plastic Jewel," throughout "Im' Rewinding it" and in "The Garden Shelter"? It sounds more like an organ (with many presets) than a synth to me. It sounds similar to to the drone hear in this track: http://soundcloud.com/magneticring/howl which I am told by the musician is a Moog Opus 3 using the string and organ sound. I know Bibio has a Yamaha CS-10 and DX-7 but I don't think these are what he is using on these tunes.

I am pretty sure the Plastic Jewel intro was inspired by BBC logotones/idents since he has a similar one at the beginning of the Top Soil video probably possibly Radiophonic style (real sounds, sound-on-sound, tape splicing, etc).

No hands on experience with the Opus3. But that doesn't mean I don't know what it can do. I don't need to play a CS80 to know it's a great synthesizer. But I have of course seen/heard the Opus3 and what it can and can not do. Have you ever played one? I'd like to get one. Ebay has one on there for 180.00 2 days left for bid.

I stretched it in paulstrech to 15 min and listen to it as I fall asleep. Great convo going here

Yes its almost impossible to duplicate that. Its a kind of used, dry, coarse, queasy ringing charmy tone.

@ Polar I've used the Opus for many years. Its got a nice spectrum of noises. Not at all static like a 3 stop string machine. All the filter sweeps and cross modulation (and built in "chorus"). It can be as bloopy and abstract as your mind wanders. Like an hour in to just poking around with it stoned. Add some guitar pedals for extreme trickery.

I'm talking about Bibio's sound. I am talking about the Moog it's self. Of course Bibio has his own techniques for getting his sound.

it's the one with fucked up midi + the batteries are out. i'm not in the liberty to fix it so it's rather useless save for a few times when it acctually works (the piano sounds are outstanding). i got it for 'free'. my friend just gave it to me to check out and we were about to settle a price later. not sure if that day ever comes, though.

i borrowed m-audio axiom 61 instead. sorry, vintage sounds, no game this time.

Damn that sucks. I am guessing you have to re-solder the battery inside? If you do fix it, install a battery socket in place of the old soldered one so you can just replace it easier next time. I'm about to do this to my Korg DW-8000 soon.

Never played one but I am looking at buying one too. It has a sequencer which is pretty cool! Has 64 Preset memory, it has 8 voices, and a doubling mode where you can double up the oscillators and make 4 'FAT' voices of polyphony.

The doubling mode is much like my DW-8000 where you can stack all 8 voices in a mono mode! You get those nice FAT Moog type leads!

Anyways, I would get it. That's a good price. They're usually around $200-$250 in excellent condition.
