while it's not my favorite track ever, it's one of my more-beloved on geogaddi!

As a Canadian I am over-exposed to Leslie Neilsen.

My love for The Campfire Headphase grows stronger with each listen but i find that I can't listen to Dayvan Cowboy at all. I just reach for the skip button every time. Don't know why.

Zoetrope should have probably had some percussion pick in at around the halfway point, matching the same textural patterns of the melody, slowly building from a quiet string of hats and snares to thundering kicks and cymbals, with the melody also getting some reverb and some underlying bass. It would be reminiscent of a certain style of orchestrated music and brings a sort of carnival-y image to my mind when I think about it.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

The worst track to me is Mansel. It just doesn't really fit the usual stuff i love in a BOC track. Not to long ago i gave a really good listen to Chinook and it's actually really good. I used to skip it but i come back to a lot of tracks that i once didn't care for and now love. I'm pretty sure the only other track i hate is Red Moss. That song is a mess.

How is Chinook too loud and harsh for people?

Haven't you heard the live version of Julie and Candy? It's WAY heavier.

Chinook is an ok song but it does get a little loud compared to most BOC. a couple songs i could never really appreciate are the way you show, gyroscope, and nlogax

Chinook is melodically very uninteresting. It's an extrmely simple track: drum patter, droning bass synth, and an occasional lead melody. The drums are terrible, just ugly as sin, filtered througha gritty distortion which makes them sound a little better, but not much. The same boring uninventive droning melody plays throughout the track, played by the simplest possible substractive synth. The only good moment in the track is the end with the more experimental drum part, but even that is pretty sloppily edited. This part unfortunetely isn't included in the Boc Maxima version of the track, which honestly is the superior version since at least that one is somewhat justified in length. Overall the track sounds like quickly thrown together filler, definitely one of Boards' worst off the officially released catalogue.

There, I just had to say it.

Energy Warning. Just seems out of place in Geogaddi, I'm really not sure why they included it.

Still Amo Bishop Roden. Those high-mids in the strings hurt my ears, literally.

me too - those synth pads are very shrill. i've always found that track confusingly over-rated, especially since the much better "kid for today" hardly seems to get any attention.

and yes i realize its a bit pointless debating over something as subjective as music, but i would like to step in and defend "chinook." to me its a masterpiece, from the menacing base notes to that melody that comes in around 1:50 (one of my favorite b.o.c. melodies.) it's extremely evocative. it's like early aphex twin lost in the frozen tundra. above all else, it's a b.o.c. track that's gutsy and extroverted, a quality that's a bit missing from their later work.

the only b.o.c. track i don't care for is "dayvan cowboy." i've tried approaching it from all kinds of conceptual angles, tried listening to it stoned, taken it out of context in compilations, had friends explain to me at length why they love it, and nothing works. after seven years i'm thinking it's time to just give up, but if someone has a spare moment maybe they could write me a one paragraph essay on why i should re-evaluate my stance. please?
