Well I'm not really a fan of Buckie High the song but in my mind i was always getting the name mixed up with Hooper Bay. I guess because "Hooper Bay" sounds like some kind of school. i just recently noticed the track lengths are are similar though. Also Buckie High sure sounds like a Hooper Bay track to me. seems to fit.

Well it does have a spraying or release of steam sound in it. I have always maintained that the only real reason the band does not want to acknowledge the old releases is because of how much they most likely plagiarized their own old work on new releases. I have also maintained that if I ever win the lottery I am flying to Scotland with flipping great wodges of cash immediately.

Assuming the old releases actually exist, I've always kind of wondered whether an offer in the $10-20k USD range offered for copies of all the old releases via a trusted source, like escrow.com or similar, would be sufficient for getting somebody who had copies to part with them.

Don't think you can put a price on the trust of friendship, if I was one of the people in possession of those tapes I definitely wouldn't part with them If I had been trusted to only hold onto them for my own listening enjoyment and not private gain.

Would it be too much to ask for the tapes/vinyls, yes.


Now, would it be too much to ask whoever has them (if we can find them) to do a good rip of them and make them available online? Maybe, maybe not. Old Boards has already been leaked. Not only that, but Boards is aware we like their old stuff too, and then they favorited a bunch of fan videos for old tracks on YouTube.

So maybe it's at the point now where somebody who has Hooper Bay can put it online to let the rest of the fanbase hear it. Still, it's ultimately up to that person.

But I don't think we know anybody who has one of those tapes/vinyls.

I don't really know. If somebody on Twoism had them they'd probably have been leaked by now, I think.

I don't think any of their friends frequent this site, I couldn't really see the point. If they are friends, their "forum" if you will would be going to the pub or their house for a listen of the material or whatever.
The really early material hasn't made it out because I assume the people they gave the tapes to were respectful of the preciousness, especially after they signed to Warp and became one of the biggest bands on that label.

That said, it would be interesting to hear anything, though ripping them and putting them online doesn't seem necessary - if the band wanted them out they would clean them up and show them in a professional format.

The plagiarism concept is an interesting one though, and possibly true?

Well the only way I could imagine people hearing the tapes really is if they are ripped. I mean, we've heard Old Tunes only because of the internet and the ability to rip tapes, not out of tape quantity.


We may never hear them for a long time, or at all, and of course anyone who owns the tapes by all means has every right to continue keeping them withheld from public listening, although I do think that there's not really anything to lose by making them available. I really think that BoC should get around to making that "BoCset" sometime with Hooper Bay and whatnot in it.

But yeah, I guess they wouldn't have anything to lose - though the way I see it, they have created an image and aura around their "brand". A virtually flawless catalogue with a focus on detail and mystery, a carefully crafted combination of visual artwork and auditory experience. They also seem to profess a certain perfectionist nature to their careers, so I can see why they want anything not in keeping with the Boards brand unreleased. To me, they have created a great, unique identity which is so outstanding and original, I don't want them to make a hasty move and release something they aren't completely happy with and doesn't fit in the whole concept.

Their mystery is as fascinating as the music imo.

...but. isnt it possible that the 35 random tracks tape is actually the songs from catalogue 3. acid memories. closes vol1. play by numbers, and hooper bay?

i understand that not all the track times match up. but who the hell knows the track times if nobody actually holds the songs?

also. if you count the number of tracks on the unreleased albums, it totals 36. which means they could have def. been converted into the 35 random tracks tape.

but with that said.. i still believe that the 35 tracks tape, and their unknown live stuff. is some of the material on their unreleased albums.

Trying to buy copies of the old releases would somehow feel wrong and I think it would miss the point. Now setting up a situation where fans could donate to charity with the idea to release old songs as goals are reached would be the way to go. Give them a real good reason to release the old songs while helping out those in need and genuinely contributing to the world in a positive way for all of the already released old songs we didn't even pay for.

I don't even want Hooper Bay half as much as I want Play by Numbers though. I have niece I call Remmy and it would do my heart a world of good to hear Remmy Kid. That and Infinite Lines of Colorful Sevens. I want that song so badly...
