I love that atleast 3 or 4 times I've gotten to wake up my friend on the west coast with a "get the fuck out of bed, new boards of canada!" text. And of course she jumps out of bed. Then we use a lot of exclaimation points. Everyone needs a friend like that.

wish I had one.

After spending a hugely pleasant day stomping around a part of the South West Coastal Path (where the BoC meetup will be) in Cornwall on my hols, listening to some choice BoC cuts whils admiring the beautiful surroundings, what an absolute blast to come back to some real, bona-ride new music from them.

Utterly stoked and love it on first listen. Feeling oddly emotional...

its weird, it doesnt really sound anything like boc imo, but then again, it does.

the synth throughout sounds so relaxing but everything else makes it feel sinister.

The colours are so vivid. As for the content of this new vid being Krug 'just running around with a super 8 camera'.... I don't what to say to that...
We're you expecting a plot, some special effects, dancers?

Im not saying it doesn't look cool . The home movie look is part of the BOC universe . I just think they could have shot maybe something like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBZsj8FPSbo on super 8 at 60fps maybe have everyone with no face ... break new ground in the visual department ya know .

I still think the Arial shots are fucking amazing though .

That Tarkovsky scene is stunning. Oh man.

As for the people though, the kind of post apocalyptic future themes that this album seems to be pointing to, would there be any people left to film?

Ha , good point .

You know i was just thinking why hasn't Chris Cunningham directed a video for them he seems like the logical choice . Signed to warp films did an ad with their music , has done really amazing work for aphex twin and others , i think he would make a brilliant BOC video along the lines of this visually . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQGyXVRiR5k

Better sound quality..this guy was closer to the screen, so the crowd noise is attenuated..
The best sound quality so far indeed! Love it!

Yeah, I believe so, and it's awesome. "Chronos" has even more of it, but it's still soooo short. I'd love a 15 min timelapse of like denver to LA at low altitude.

All i'm wondering now is why do they hire someone to make visuals while they've been saying in interviews that they've been recording and editing videos all these years themselves ?

Good question. I would rather see what they have recorded/edited than this Neil Krug stuff. Not really that impressed, seems a little 2nd year college project type of stuff.

The Arial shots are amazing . However i totally agree, this is just running around with a super 8 camera not overly impressive . I'll be honest I was also disappointed when the dayvan cowboy video came out too as that was just Stock footage from artbeats . The task of truly matching BOC's sound to visuals is a daunting task maybe even impossible . I think this is one of the main reasons they have yet to have a proper tour .

i'm not *entirely* on board with neil krug to be honest. he's quite good at what he does, but his particular brand of 70s revisionism seems to me, at times, a bit too obvious, and a bit style over substance. it's the kind of too-perfect, led zeppelin / vintage playboy retro chic that people like tycho are into and that i *assumed* BoC weren't interested in. a lot of his stuff just reminds me of the desert drug trip scene in oliver stone's "the doors."

it's possible that BoC admire his mastery of analog techniques and wanted to use his skills for their own aesthetic goals, as opposed to his usual "half naked california babe standing in a perfect circle of lens flare" kind of thing. and so far the results have been successful i think. though yeah ideally i would prefer their own film/video.

Quite excellent - this is the sort of confirmation I was looking for.

Footage pairs great with the track; sort of brooding and desolate in tone, yet equally open, expansive and hopeful. Really good balance by the sounds of it.

IMO, great how this sounds reassuringly and solidly BOC. Indeed, I can make a connection from aspects of Geogaddi and Trans Canada Highway to this.

Without the drums, it does a have quite a television / film soundtrack vibe going on, I think - especially promising to hear the inclusion of a lovely arpeggiated synth line at around 2 minutes in; that's definitely my cup of tea!

So from this rough first impression, if it's any indication, then this could be superb...

Thanks for the vid 8)

I know they like to manipulate sound so the instrument is unrecognizable, so it's hard to tell, but anyone else hear a lot of guitar in this song? Lush lushness

You should post something on craiglist about a record store meetup on release day, that's what I'm gonna do. I moved here not all that long ago and don't really have friends here, I know what it's like to feel incredibly lonely. It can't make up for real life interaction, but at least we get to share this moment and our excitement together here.

This. But I think he has a point to an extent of the impact that MHTRTC had on everyone. Compare the amount of times you've listened to any other album of theirs, I'll bet MHTRTC is the top.
