Meh, test presses are test presses. Never really understood the appeal of them.

Aren't test pressings usually dubplates? Acetate?
I have heard test pressings in the past that were actually better than the run (:

No, not usually. Actually almost never in my experience, at least not the ones that have gotten into public circulation. Test pressings often can be slightly better quality that the eventual release if they're pressed with the same masters, as the master plates wear over time making each pressed copy of the record slightly worse quality. Test pressings and whitelabels are typically the first ones pressed which is why they are sought after.
