and that was released in 1996. I m just saying the style and quality of the music doesn't match the gritty tape sound of their late 80s early 90s tracks.
i am trying to transfer old cassettes to digital right now and on more than one occasion the first few feet of tape ends up like a birds nest in the player - not in the cassette. after extraction and manually rewinding the spool so its properly tight, it plays back better but now a bit gummed up. when the spools shake around and are loosened up you get a lot of garbled playback at first (if you don't do the manual tighten thing with a pencil). just hypothesizing that could be what happened here - after you get beyond that point, the fresh tape tends to play back with less issue.
