This one is stunning!

That's us walking back this morning. Fairly steep track back to the village so we'd stopped for a breather. A very English view 8)

Think I've finally recovered some sleep now. :D

Huge thanks to everyone who was a part of this. I had an amazing time (despite the combination of woodsmoke and hay fever damn near choking me as I tried to sleep!). The combination of great people, great tunes, stunning location and an awesome clear night sky (my god it's full of stars!) made it a night I will never forget.

Really interesting to hear the BoC albums I know so well in a different context. TH was perfectly suited to the setting and Geogaddi was jaw-droppingly powerful, making my favourite album somehow even better! IABPOITC and Hi-Scores also benefitted greatly from the campfire ambience. Ironically, the only one that didn't seem to fit being played around a campfire at night was Campfire Headphase. I think it's more of a daylight album.

Extra bonus thanks to Mr and Mrs Mexicola for making me so welcome. That bacon sandwich and shower in the morning was mightily appreciated. :)

Another mahoosive thumbs up from me. The whole evening just worked. From downing a couple of pints of Em's Red at the pub first surveying the land down to the sea, making our collective way down to the site and finding the perfect spot at the venue after we figured out that it was probably going to be too warm to sleep in a cave.

The fire kept us energised alongside the amazing tunes we all know and love. Not to mention venison burgers, roasting marshmallows and the pure spectacle of the Milky Way stretching across the sky above as a very special backdrop to satellites and shooting stars. Sleeping under that vast galactic cinema screen was something quite special.

Our heads in the morning were a little fuzzy (surprise surprise), and a few had kids to attend once home. I can't imagine how hard it would have been to stay awake for that, but well done to all. I can't wait for the next one and to do it all again. Now that we're aware of other parts of the site to camp in, maybe we could even do tents. That spot with the unexpected other campers would make for great BOC accoustics ;)

I'm glad you all had such a great time; apologies for not being able to make it. Judging from the comments and photos you guys must have had an amazing evening out there, and I have to say I'm truly jealous of you guys, hangovers and all. I'd love to come along to the next meet, along with some buckie wine and big tent to make up for missing the first one.. It would be a night to remember i'm sure

OK, so 48 hours later I reckon I'm together enough to post a few quick thank you messages out and describe a little of what we experienced. And experienced is the word in my view. I'll never forget the evening of 6th July 2013, or the wee hours of the 7th either for that matter. Seriously, my head...

Thank yous first though:

Cheers first and foremost to everyone who came along. Particular mention should go to Rickkiebags and Novayshun for their input in the run up - welcome support and ideas-boards both, you both played blinders. Thank you.

IanRedpoint. We've been to a few amazing gigs now, but this probably topped the lot I reckon? (OK, Stars of the Lid MIGHT have just topped it. Maybe...). You're very welcome re the bacon sandwich on the way home. Apologies if I was a little quiet - I was dog-tired to be honest and I reckon I hit the hay about 30 seconds after you left. Didn't lift my head off the pillow for 3 hours. Bless my Mrs for looking after Mini-Mexicola I say

Twoist - so good to see you again dude. Always a genuine pleasure 8) Those photos are incredible! So many memories in my head though - that jaw-dropping Milky Way across the sea as I tried to go to sleep at 2:30AM, the ISS flying overhead, the Chinese Lanterns from that other party in the corner soaring over our heads and out to sea. I'll never forget you guys wandering back with that lot in-tow either. The looks on their faces - 'Are you guys in the Army or something?!?'. Priceless.

Ray / Matty - sorry guys, I've forgotten your Twoism names (I actually had a spreadsheet at one point with everyone on when I was organising all this - it got that silly!). What a pair of legends!! Ray, firstly huge kudos for travelling down from the Pentlands man. You find yourself down this way again, be sure and let me know and I'll get the first pint in. Matty - to coin a phrase, you brought the party man!! Stay off the grid dude, but like Ray, it'd be awesome to catch up at some point. 8)

Wanted to take the time to say 'Cheers' to Ae as well. Not just for putting the banner up (although clearly, thanks!), but also for your support and encouragement. You practically told me to use the Twoism logo, not to mention that evening we sat online thrashing out the graphics for the banner. Invaluable, cheers man. Hope you can make it over next year - for there WILL be a next year

MDG - cheers for permission to use the BOC and Tomorrow's Harvest images. Much appreciated. Incidentally, Facebook keeps suggesting I add you - fear not, I know better

Finally, cheers too to Billy, Jon, Jamie, Will, Callum, Luke, Andy H, Techboy, Ben, Fugee (natch!), Chris and any other bugger I've forgotten who expressed an interest at one point or another. Still meant alot.

Sounds like an absolutely perfect time :) too many other commitments (including my other half's birthday the next day) made it impossible to be there, big shame but if you do do another one then I will be very much interested!

It's hard to describe the night itself without resorting to hyperbole really. However I describe it though, will never be able to do it justice. It really was a special, special night and one I'll never forget.

From the moment we rocked up at the pub, the sun truly BLAZING down, cider/ale in hand as the sea glinted away in the distance. Matty sidling up and introducing himself in that Dylan-from-the-magic-roundabout voice of his: 'So.....which of you lot's got the C90s on him man?!?'

That long meandering walk through the village (looking back it's clear everyone knew what we were up to and couldn't have cared less, but at the time it all felt very covert) and then that back-aching yomp down to the site.

The looks on some of your faces as we turned the corner into the venue. Jaws hitting floors, eyes wide as saucers. I did try and tell you all it was special

Finally managed to relax once I got the fire going and realised that (a) I could remember HOW to start a campfire (been a while) and (b) we pretty much had the place to ourselves, bar two cyclists camping away in the corner and that other party of 5 really sound people who we'd meet later and confuse entirely with 'Boards of Canada? But....they're from Scotland???'. To be fair, I think they were as pissed/baked as we were..

Trying to recall the 'setlist' now? I know we started with Tomorrow's Harvest and then In A Beautiful Place..., I think Geogaddi was next, then maybe Hi Scores??? After that it starts to get very hazy. I know we played those Helios covers at some point, the Broken Drum remix....?

In any case, by now the slow-cooked venison burgers had stopped soaking up the booze and I cracked into my hip flask for medicinal purposes (just incase Rikkiebags 'Cajun' style sausages - aka bricks - still had any animal DNA left in them. Highly doubtful). The Milky Way was stretching from one horizon to the other, providing an unforgettable backdrop to the whole thing. I just remember lying back and looking up as Over The Horizon Radar played away, fighting it's corner against the distance gentle crash of small waves against the rocks below. Chinese Lanterns suddenly fly just over head, lighting up the ocean unlit by a moonless but cloudless night (Note to self: I really do need to drag my telescope down there at some point).

Last thing I recall before turning in, was drifting off to the end of Campfire Headphase. The tape played Trans-Canada Highway as I drifted in and out of sleep and each time I woke up, I'd open my eyes and there were more stars that I've ever seen, while the campfire gently popped and crackled.

Little over two hours later, the sun was starting to rise. So happy that my hangover hadn't really kicked in yet, so I managed to haul my arse out my sleeping bag in time to see it rise up over the Purbecks Hills.

WHAT. A. SIGHT.

The sea was still like a millpond. Matty had fired up Tomorrow's Harvest, which worked a treat. I think we all just stood there, a bit in awe to be honest. Even now, I'm shaking my head and grinning as I type this. Perfect. Just perfect.

Next summer can't come soon enough.

Bring it on :D

Just got in to Edinburgh after travelling back from Bournemouth last night. Total grid lock going out of Bournemouth missed my connection in London and have been zig zagging across the UK via National Express all day - 20.5 hours. I was originally due in at 8am this morning!!

Anyway enough of that - I'd just like to say that I had a great time and so did Matty. What a truly stunning location and I'm so glad that I made the effort to be there.

Roll on next year - it has to be an annual event surely?

I'll post some pics that I took after a well earned snooze

PS - Matty's not a member of twosim at the moment but I'll try and persuade him to sign up

That was a shot that Twoist took, but I'm sure he won't mind in the slightest

Glad you got home sound - that head'll clear soon enough I'm sure

Incidentally, next year is a cast-iron certainly. I'm already looking forward to it.
Now we've got the first one under our belts, I'm much more relaxed about numbers for next time.
Let's see a few more Twoismers making it along

Still annoyed my financial woes stopped me from coming but next year for sure! I make it my mission.

Its things like this that make Twoism such a special community. Proud to be a small part of it.

Already looking forward to next year, hopefully some of the European users can get over for it, or even american - hope so!

Also Mex, listening to Over the Horizon Radar whilst looking up at the stars sounds ridiculously awesome. ISS there as well to top it off, I'm a jealous man!

The only thing I have slightly comparable to that is listening to Kid for Today in my mates huge country garden whilst a full moon was out, and that was special.

I am definitely coming next year, nothing will stop me.

So before I put this thing to bed for a while, how would the first Saturday of July sound for next year too? ie. 5 July 2014.

That ought to give you lot plenty time

Argh! I had intended to go but remembered a prior engagement and it wasn't possible to back out. I regretted not being able to attend.

I must try harder next year to go - I've no problem with campfires or kipping out under the stars.

Glad you all had a great time!
Jesus, was it you indeed?

When you knew that what I'd need was willingness and comfort there

Glad it went well and everyone had fun. I'm sorry to have missed it, (curse my health) but hopefully I'll be along for the next one.
