I love their album What's Come Inside of You, check out this track from the album: http://youtu.be/RYUv6cdr_J4 They're on Attacknine Records http://attacknine.com/ Check out the label... Casino Vs. Japan is on there as well as Brian Grainger/Milieu.... all good stuff you would probably dig.

Thanks man, I'm all over it! Just been listening to The Bear and the Sea too. So much to listen to :D

Yeah, I just found The Bear and the Sea by accident one day on BandCamp... their album Trees Like You is a free download... look it up and get it.... Crystal Swords is my favorite track from that one. the second half is great.

I hate when people compare Black Moth Super Rainbow to BoC.

BoC keep it real and speak their mind naturally through music. BMSR do have some good tracks, but I don't like bands who have that "look how quirky and lo-fi we are" image. It just feels so contrived.

Ciaran Byrne's Nine Lives Causeway album is by far the best attempt at BoC imitation I've ever heard.

Elexen wrote:I think "Clones" might be a bit of a harsh word. I would say that BoC may have inadvertently started a sub genre of sorts, which I think is great. I have my own little name for it that I call "Nostalgica". And BoC would be to Nostalgica, as say, Nirvana would be to Grunge. Maybe that's corny but I don't give a shit. I find that there are all different artists who strike these certain similar tones and yet have their own vibe and use other genre elements while still maintaining enough of a nostalgic ambient sound. Many of the artist that create music on this forum would obviously be in this genre as well. Some have more trip-hop elements (like my own stuff), some are more glitchy, some have an 80's vibe, some a 70's vibe etc.... But I feel they also have a lot of common ground. Of course, this is just how I personally lay it out in my head and compartmentalize the music I listen to.

I think all the diversity is very cool, and we should all stick together and support each other. Movements are born in this way. Twoism and WATMM are like the head quarters. All of this petty Bloods Vs. Crips bullshit needs to fly. The two forums just have 2 different styles of communication. One is a bit more sarcastic and one is a bit more laid back, but both are full of intelligent people that appreciate the same types of music. Lots of member cross forums anyway. It's all about the music.

Ps. Has anyone mentioned Airliner, Milieu or The Bear and the Sea yet????

Yep pretty much agree with everything you just said man, and it was a joy discovering your tracks and finding someone on the same wavelength, but I think it applies to us all. We are all just recreating the distant memories and photographs we have had of our youth and its cool because everyone's take on it will obviously be different :)

You think BMSR is contrived? IDK, I never really hear them compared to BoC except for maybe that their music congers up some nostalgic feelings, but other than that, they have a totally different and unique sound. There is nothing out there that sounds like that except for them. Very bold and bright. And Tobacco is a really cool guy. I don't think he's trying to be prtentious.... He just is quirky and lo-fi. But hey, to each his own.

Can't believe no-one posted a link to Hills West - Step into the Outside yet. This one is influenced by Geogaddi.

Glide by Manual and the rest of the awash ep obviously has a HUGE sprinkling of Boards jizz but the result is sublime. If anybody hasn't heard the EP I highly recommend it and was one of my favourite buys from last year

Check the previews of that album right here http://tychomusic.com/ and see for yourself...

And always remember, there is only one BoC 8)

i think tycho is pretty amazing though. i do understand that his music is heavily BOC influenced, but he really does create some awesome soundscapes

Colorform Sun wrote:Tycho seems to be quite a sensitive subject. I tried to like him too, but was unsuccessful. "There's something missing" is a very fitting phrase. It doesn't possess the same emotion in an organic way, but rather it seems he tries a bit too hard to put off a vibe that belongs to those who put it off by default and without effort. That's what could be seen as "contrived". There's just not much substance to it and it doesn't resonate in the same, natural way that BoC does for me..

just heard his new one, Awake, first track 'Awake' is very good, it goes downhill from there, nothing stands out. No wonder he called it Awake, that is the only good track on it imo. Its very hmm digital plastic sounding, overblown, almost cheesy in parts but hey.

anyone else hear it and what do ye think?

BOC Isn't comparable to anyone.

Some moods are accomplished in some Autechre/Gescom/Tycho and stuff of the likes but You can't even accurately hold anyone to the same pedestal as BOC.

Word.

I find that most of the artists that get lumped in with BoC (including their labelmates like Ae) have completely different influences and musical styles. The fact that two musicians use some of the same tools (samplers, synths, etc.) does not make their music similar.

I have listened to a little bit of the music from a few of these 'clones.' None of it transports me to a psychedelic wonderland of memories and visions the way BoC's music does.
