I'm wondering if they might do something that would help the die-hard fans have a chance to get tickets. They've reached out to Twoism before. Then again, maybe they wouldn't want to be surrounded by us in person.

And there's been speculation that maybe they'd play in California somewhere. There was a recurring California theme in TH and it's promotion, and apparently they lived in the states for a while between TCH and TH--maybe it was CA.

I wrote them a letter a few months ago. Maybe that will sway them to do something! (I tried)

They're more than welcome to come along and play this if they fancy it?

The closest us proletariat will get to a live gig is a playing of a recording from SoulSeek in someone's bedroom.

I think they'll gig in America somewhere in a nuclear fallout shelter or something.

im pretty sure, with how meticulous BOC seem to be. i think if they were to play live. it would be some sort of thing that people viewed over the internet. so it wouldnt be live, in person. but it would be displayed live through some sort of broadcast. they would have complete control as to how it is viewed by the audience.

an actual live show would be nearly impossible for them to keep under wraps. people would be able to sneak recording equipment in much easier than in years past, because just about every cell phone is an hd camera.

the idea of them doing a live podcast isnt that far fetched. i could imagine them adding some really trippy video segments to it, and doing some really cool things with how they would present some of their music live.

I get your idea, but c'mon this is not live, when band plays in public, sharing the same dancefloor, getting applause, communicate in some way, or w/e... but on the other hand I really would be interested in such "transition", in some way in may be interesting experience. If they ever decide to make live one way as you said, or another, being at the same venue, seeing them at the stage is whole different experience !

They could pull off what the Knife did and perform behind several layers of projection and screening. Very AV.

Marcus, the quieter but by no means less passionate of the two, finishes Mike's thought and addresses more specifically what it is about Boards of Canada's sound that makes the prospect of a live show do tricky. "You've got to know the limitations of the music that you make. I always think of our music as being a lot more like headphone music, a brain music that you can drift into," he says. "So the idea of playing on a stage where you may be coming on just before a massive set by The Chemical Brothers doesn't sound like it would work. Earlier on though, when we were in transition from working with Skam to working with Warp, we did a couple of gigs that were label showcases with Warp artists. We have massive respect for guys like Squarepusher and Aphex Twin but we found ourselves doing shows with these guys and they were so full-on electronic and really full of energy. It wasn't really what we wanted to do at the time."

Finishing Marcus' thought, Mike chimes in for one last comment, the thought of which will certainly become fan-boy fodder for neo-prog and electronica lovers the world over. "It might have suited us better to be put on a bill beside Tortoise or somebody like that. And you never know, we still could end up doing it one day."

I heard that at ATP, they had a really intensive setup to the point that it had to be put together first thing the day that they headlined. Understandable, but sucked for the other bands who had to play around that equipment on the same stage all day.

I'd imagine that being in a scenario where speed outweighs sound quality (e.g. Coachella and other big festivals) would be a complete compromise. I always thought of them playing in a nicer theater if they did a conventional tour. Tortoise would be a plus.

If SOTL can make their music work live, so can BOC.
I still believe we'll see them play live again one day.

An outdoor event held during the summer starting just before sundown and with no prospect of rain. We can all dream can't we?

How do Autechre pull it off?

What would BOC be doing besides triggering samples? You guys think they'd have a drummer, synths, and guitars up there to supplement samples?

When I go through this in my mind on a daily basis, I also imagine that they might write material specifically for the shows, material that is actually informed by performance in some capacity.
