You have bands and musicians like U2, Lady Gaga, I dunno...Those kinds of people are very open about who they are, they give interviews on a regular basis, use Facebook, communicate with the fans in 1 way or another...
And then you have people like Boards of Canada who are very secret about who they are, what they're working on, don't give out interviews like, at all, and their only form of communicating with the fans is by other people (mdg and websites and pages run by Warp).
So because of that, and because people want to know more about their favorite bands or musicians, Old Tunes, R35TT and such is about the only way they can find out about their beginnings, or roots. We don't know veeery much about early BoC aside from some vague mentions in the interviews and that one reddit post where somebody claims that he knew the band (that may be bullshit though). That's why people easily fall for fake tracks and why people buy rare tapes for hundreds of thusands of millions of billions of thousands of hundreds of dollars. It's a way of connecting to the band. Yeah, I think this sounds stupid.
That's a perfect description. I have no idea, however, what prompts such discomfort at the idea for someone to release a copy of pre-Twoism tracks, and I figure there must be a valid reason behind such hostility. Just my thoughts.
EDIT: Off topic, but how do you change your avatar on this site?
On topic: are you ashamed that you scammed me?
There was absolutely nothing of the sort. First of all, I did not demand donations, and they really all did go to my father. Secondly, MDG claims I have had the tapes faked to "sound like original cassettes." If they sound like the originals, why are they "fake?" But, anyway, I am still very appreciative for those who chose to donate, and this topic is not about the cassette rips.
If they ARE fake (which, I honestly doubt since I, myself, have had them WAY before 2009, who knows when my dad first got them), you all still got masters that "sound like original cassettes" free of charge. Why is there so much hostility from HS if there weren't a valid reason? It all seems a bit fishy to me, in all honesty.
Take a good look at the artwork, break out your best pair of headphones, compare the tracks to everything you've heard, and
you tell me.
EDIT: and ABSOLUTELY FUCKING
NOT! My father has cancer, no one in their right fucking MIND would lie about that, I'm appalled that you would even think that!
