Corsair and Telepath using the same samples?

I was reading the bocpages entry on Corsair, and apparently there's actually a voice in the far left channel:
A pirate, especially a privateer of the Barbary coast - [DC], who, after the first few listens, believes he could hear a voice; a child's voice counting as in Gyroscope (most strongly at 2'11, as follows: 2'11 "one", 2'13 "two", 2'15 "three, 2'17 "four" ...), almost as a sort of faint "echo" of sunshine recorder the start of the album. (Since writing that, another correspondent has expressed agreement that there is a voice here: that it sounds like a voice vocodered with a white noise source - which would produce just such a kind of "speaking static" - and then filtered).

I listened, and lo and behold, it's there. If you can't hear it, listen with headphones, and you can hear it every time the drone sweeps to the left ear. While bocpages only mentions one through four, I'm pretty sure there's a five in there too. When five is spoken though, it's kind of dragged out. "one...two...three...four...fiiiive". Telepath has the same style of counting, starting at 0:56. Do you think these are the same sample?

I can't hear it as well. I really want to, because Corsair is my favourite off of Geogaddi.

Nah. Can't hear it.

Mind you, I'm 41. Not sure my hearing is as good as some of you guys?

I listen to things carefully for a living and I can't hear it.

Having said that I hear new things in BoC tracks all the time. I'm pretty certain they developed some kind of weird layering technique where things only become apparent after a certain number of listens. Like the audio wears away and reveals new things.

It wouldn't surprise me if they actually did that. Clever bastards.

Hah! I thought the exact same thing many times.

It's weird that no one can hear it. I heard it loud and clear the first time I read about it. Listen very closely in the left ear - it sounds like distortion almost, like the gain is too loud or something. If you can't make out the words, you should at least be able to hear a little "kssht" or "buzz" of white noise/distortion every time it pans to the left at about 2:10.

Also, you may not hear it if you're listening for nice, full enunciated speech. It really just sounds like static that is filtered to sound like counting.

I think I hear what you say is the counting, but it sounds more like a soft whooshing in the background to me

Ya, a real soft white noise, can't make out the counting. How the hell did anyone even notice it? One way to find out if it's the same, v: pull it into an editor and try to isolate it...might be a good excuse to learn if you hadn't already, curiosity is always what drives me w/stuff like this.

Posting here to remind me to try to isolate it when I get home.

Alright, I Isolated the left channel, then copied it and inverted one of them and made the gain of one at about -5. In case you didn't know, putting two identical channels and inverting one of them will cancel out the other and produce silence. I'm not sure what I did exactly, but the white noise presence is much stronger. The counting starts at about 2:11. Because this is the left channel only, the numbers come on the raise in volume as opposed to the panning to the left, so it should be easier to hear.

I can definitely hear it. The 'fiiiive' is the most noticeable. I'm amazed someone could pick that up without already knowing it was there.

Not hearing it at all, but then I'm 41 and my hearing isn't likely to be as sensitive as some of you. Would I be right to assume those hearing this are either teens or early twenties??

Got you by 3 years :D but it's right at the bottom edge of my hearing. I bet you can get it if you listen hard for really faint fields of static, like samples introduce sometimes. valleaux, looks like Mediafire mistook your last one for the original track and blocked it.

Is there a chance you could upload it to other host? I think my country doesn't let me dowload it...

Sorry about the blocking. I just edited the original digital copy so it still had all of the artist info and stuff. I hope this link works.

Mex: Nope. Try page2 ;-(
