I am on the fence on this one. Let me mediate.
I have heard elsewhere that all of the performances by BoC under Warp have soundboard audio. This is certainly true of the Lighthouse party etc as we have heard clips. There is a chance, a thin but notable chance, that this isn't the case for Warp10. The fact that there have been no clips whatsoever of said performance in a professional format would back up this claim.

The bootleg audio of Warp10 is really satisfactory and a good listen, however, when Warp are controlling a radio station for the weekend and announce, without stating otherwise, that boards' contribution to Warp10 would be played, they must have at least naturally assumed that fans would interpret that as a previously unreleased soundboard recording and not Warp using a bootleg recorded by someone presumably non-affiliated. Maybe the person recording was affiliated? It is good quality, just not soundboard.

Whilst the whining can sometimes get a bit excessive and the fans certainly have no right to music that BoC choose not to release. This anger seems to be directed towards Warp for misleading them, it could be argued that this is the case.

Warp are only in business because of the service they provide and the hard earned money they receive from listeners for their products. If you have personally spent a portion of the money you have earned on a company that goes on to seemingly mislead you, I could empathise with the negativity.

I'm just baffled that they would use a boolegged copy of a live recording - I get that it was from another Warp anniversary event, but...bootleg?

I don't think there's anything wrong with people being upset about the fact it's bootleg - has nothing to do with the band, that is on WARP to decide to throw that in the playlist, anyway.

At the very least they could give us a proper track listing!

I know there’s a soundboard recording of the ATP show because they uploaded the live version of Julie and Candy on YouTube and used a portion of Echus in the ATP documentary, and ABPOITC live version appeared on CD, but as far as I know all we have from the Lighthouse party is the locked groove of Spiro, and that could be from the original track, not the live version. So there’s no proof of a Lighthouse Party soundboard either.

IT'S A SIGN (or something)!

If we ever get a somewhat clear night this weekend, I'll have to see if I can grab some photos! Very BoC-esq!

Real bummer about WARP10 but still extremely excited about Societas x Tape. Warp really had our nostalgia hopes HIGH for a few solid hours though. Talk about a typo.

The annoying thing isn't that it's not a perfect quality recording; it's that it's identical to what we've all listened to many times before.

Yeah basically my frustration is towards the ones organizing the event for not clarifying that it was the bootleg the moment they posted it, because fans would otherwise think it could be a new recording, still an odd decision to include this in the first place though.

The warp event they are talking about is the Warp10 (1999)
The tracks listed here are all either from the Lighthouse Party or ATP 2001.
It does get slightly confusing at times, I've had to go back over the Bocpages of live events just to be sure.

For all we know, there genuinely isn't a soundboard recording of BoC's contribution to Warp10.

I was always under the assumption that BoC were never a fan of the fact that those shows got low quality bootlegs in the first place. I mean yeah its pretty odd. Just gotta wait and see what it is!

Bit strange to use a warp 10 anniversary thing to celebrate warp 30 lol

That's kinda cheating

I completely agree with you on this one.... I have worked as a stage hand/live audio engineer for 10+ years and have hundreds of shows under my belt from many performers... with “Heart” being the biggest gig I have worked... and can say that quite often... even for big labels, that soundboard recordings often times are left out, forgotten, or just not included... especially if the artist is not headlining... I am still completely cool with this bootleg stream... I may be the only one who thinks it’s cool but I guess I understand people’s frustration butI just don’t think BoC really care if we are mad that it is not official.... but technically it is now officiall because they now recognize it... come on people... it isn’t very often a big label gets behind a bootleg recording that doesn’t involve litigation haha

I understand the sentiment, but recall that this is on NTS 2 and not the main NTS station.
If they advertised Boards of Canada and then, for their main event, played a bootleg of their Warp10 performance - Then I would most likely empathise if you wanted to go and smear fecal matter all over the pristine walls of their head office.

But the photo was taken by random person at the party

No it isn’t considering that channel is dedicated to releases and shows that are already heard... we have never even had a full show released from warp so... I am sorry but I guess I just do not share your animosity towards this ha

This, actually. It is very unique to a fairly down to earth label like Warp to officially recognize a bootleg recording and accept it into their repertoire rather than dismissing it and chastising the person who recorded it. I think there is a certain level of respect that Warp are due for that one. Thanks for reminding people to be honest :D

I think my main point is that most true boc fans have heard this.. Warp recognising it doesn't mean anything.. I'm not happy about that. It means literally nothing

Haha. I'm going to let them off this time.

Making light of it helps overcome the complete and utter spirit crushing despair :)

It’s interesting that on the latest BoC Instagram post that they only refer to Channel 1 being the WXAXRXP event. Maybe the Channel 2 Warp10 bootleg is an NTS radio thing trying to get more listeners knowing that most will be listening to Channel 1 this weekend? None of the official Warp advertising about even mentions the Warp10 event anyway!!
