Anybody else a little underwhelmed by the new release?

Perhaps that's the case, and it's musically a great song, but the words make me not want to listen to it and so I avoid doing so. Debates never, ever result in any kind of benefit or change of opinion, so I'm with reflex on this one.

The way you came off at first was as though your way of thinking is the only way and must be accepted... that is the sort of energy that also causes me a reflex, even if you did not intend on your words coming off that way.

Saying BoC had motives for their religious content is like saying Slayer are pro war (War Ensemble) and are murderous serial killers like Ed Gein (Dead skin mask). They aren't, they just find interesting topics and use them for artistic outlets.

Taking anything art throws out to heart is weak on the offended audience' part.

Religion is interesting and some people take it serious and others don't, that's life. Don't take offence that others don't have the same reaction as you to something.

Appreciate art and take inspiration from it if it makes you feel something.

It's kind of funny I indirectly sent the thread down this path. Though to be frank, I'm happy people aren't flaming me over my opinions of TH. I still like it a lot and I love coming up with imaginary films in my head to fit the soundtrack.

All good... haha I happen to be in the camp where TH imho was/is one of the greatest musical achievements since MHTRTC... again my humble opinion... and while I am in the minority on this... Jacquard Causeway is my anthem... So fresh and experimental!... I also imagine different movie scenarios with this album

I seriously respect everyone who thinks that about TH. Like I said, BOC are my second favorite group so how could I not respect everyone's opinions concerning them.

And honestly, I feel they accomplished everything they set out to do with TH. They created a soundtrack to their own imaginary 80s sci-fi horror film and it probably made them happy to do so. They do creep up in Palace Posy, Cold Earth and Nothing Is Real so I know the band still uses them, at least.

Oh I forgot that one. It reminds me a lot of Madonna's Live To Tell. Fortunately for me, I'm pretty eclectic musically and love some of the early Madonna records, (she even embraces some lightweight electronica in the 90s) but I'm sure there are some hardcore IDM fans who probably don't like the association.

Telepath is one of the more eventful vignettes though. The counting reminds of an aged version of Gyroscope.

I just love how sad, but yet “wanting to remain beautiful, but never sticks”... Jacquard Causeway is... I still wish more people could relate to this track as to me it is a masterful gem that is completely unique... reminds me of those beautiful memory moments we all wish we could relive but never will... like they nailed imho with this track the feeling of the title of an Explosions In The Sky album... “All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone”... I feel comforted when I hear it... like it’s ok, we all feel that way sometimes

One of my favorites too. I like your explanation.
For me, I imagine Jacquard Causeway is what might happen if the concept of Natural Selection was applied to melody. Various phrases enter at different times, overlapping, and then mutate to create new ones as older ones die out. I picture a time-lapse video of the Earth spanning millions of years, and each sound is a new species of life that appears/disappears.

Pretty much my list too, as above, though I rarely listen to Come to Dust.
If I dial up TH on my iPod I usually go through these songs, which would make a damn fine EP.

But... Gemeni and White Cyclosa! Those two are just incredible imo. I'll never tire of those, or of Sundown.

One time I was painting my parents garage and I was playing TH from within my car, and when I got to the other side of the garage, there was a delay in how I heard the main note progression of White Cyclosa and the combination of the barrier of the garage, and the sound waves bouncing off of the forest behind me, (even farther away from the car), caused the song to sound fundamentally different and I heard notes that I have never heard haha and now I can’t “un-hear” that “accidentally delayed in reality version” lol same thing happened to new seeds

Back in the 90s I had a JVC stereo system with some sort of "enhanced, extra wide stereo" button. It basically manipulated the phase relationships between the two speakers. Sometimes that would bring elements of songs to the front, much louder than they were in the mix. It wasn't "right" but it was interesting to listen to, something like uncovering layers of buried sounds.
