I think what's interesting is how Julie and Candy became more of a banger after 9/11 happened. It's very static during ATP but on Geogaddi, which was released in Feb 2002, suddenly it's really funky and weirdly sexy sounding.
Warning: This numerology post is not to be taken 2 seriously.

Can anyone notice the very similar vibe to the Gemini track around the 43:55 mark. Also, there seems to be a strange effect going on where you can see straight through their bodies on the beach... It's as though they are ghosts.

I can definitely hear it! It sounds almost the same. It kind of makes sense given that one of the production companies was "Gemini Films", and the fact that they were trying to "recreate a specific sound from a particular period of time" (or something like that). Even more weird now that they kept watching this movie together lol

Haahahaha. What kind of big brother would he be if he didn't lend you his porno collection. I found my Dads stash when I was about 12 (I don't think he knew). I'd rewind them right back to the place they were before i'd watched them. He had some absolute CLASSICS - many of which featured the lovely Annette. What a woman, what a time. The golden age of porn.

People have gushed for years about how they're plucking all this obscure stuff from all over but like, it comes from so few sources! That's not a dig; they couldn't do it if they weren't so good at knowing how to make the most of what they take.

I suddenly have this theory that all of Blockbuster was sampled from just one episode of Blockbuster!

Notice in part 3 of the montage that the woman leaning in front of the fire drapes her clothes in front of it and looks see-through as well as changes the color.

"Keoma" on the TheMysteriousSong discord server has managed to find the library music label used in Summer of '72, it's all from the Soper Sound Music Library

Niagara is "My Kind Of Lady" from the 1999 CD "Series 1 - Variety" or "11A-6" from the 1978 LP "Series 1 Album 1"

Very cool find!
Edit: Also, song "11B-7" from album 1 is the little flute track recreated for track 3 of Warp10.

Brilliant find! I spend ours looking for the source of these songs in that porn flick. I wonder if/when boards of canada became aware of who they sampled?

So as I understand it, you could use those music libraries royalty free? So maybe permission was not needed by warp? This brings me onto the track 5.9.78 - Was this a track BoC created from scratch or does it sample something old and lost in the archives of time? Why wouldn't a beautiful track like that get an official release?

Because they sold it to that Italian Telecom commercial, it plays in the ending part right? I imagine it would be a legal hell if they ever wanted to release it.
Yeah some of those are free to use, depends what happened to the company and did they plan the long game back then. There are lots of different types of usage possibilities, like a timed license, lease, etc. But big labels caught up on libraries pretty fast and bought most of the rights, not all of them though because some are really rare or the original masters were lost. A legend says that at some point in the 80s Michael Jackson owned Bruton and that these session musicians played on his albums including Thriller.
I think that 5.9.78 is indeed made from sampled material. I might have gaíned some insight into their process by finding lots of those "inspiration" tracks which have the same elements or a melody etc. They create a song using a sample and then they remove it and leave it as that or re-create what used to be a sample with their own instrumentation, and so avoiding the possible legal hassle. Pretty sure they mentioned this in some interview too. And indeed, there are old songs with sounds or melodies for lots of tracks that were released on albums and EPs.

Just throwing it out there, but with all the references to pornographic movies, I wonder If that's the actual meaning behind the title "Whitewater".
