Thanks for the answer. Could you have been the first to find it? Do you recall if there were comments on the video by the time you got to it? I wonder what motivated the uploader…If James Loughton is legitimately a dude that has argued for years that he had this record with no one believing them, what caused them to act now?
If it’s a fake, uploading it on the anniversary of MHTRTC was a good way to have it be found, probably a handful of people like you searching for BOC videos by new today
No I was the first to comment. He originally uploaded the vinyl on Discogs, where he got (unsurprisingly) dogpiled by other members accusing him of uploading a fake, to which he then uploaded the first amount of “proof”, the Circle track. That was the reason for his first upload, but it clearly gained traction beyond that. And I say this with cautious optimism, but it looks like this led us to finally hearing Hooper Bay

I'm not good at this whole forum thing so bear with me thru any formatting issues - signed up to comment here
It was because of this
now removed discogs page in which i edited to add unofficial and called for removal thinking it was a hoax. While i was asleep the inital video was uploaded and now the sides are up. After listening I dont know what to think because did I call for removal of something actually legit ??

Hmmm.. I didn’t see the initial Discogs thread. The link wouldn’t open for me without an account. Interesting to know how this came about. Seems unlikely someone who knows what they have and is posting about Boards of Canada to Discogs would be unaware of the Twoism forums, doesn’t it?
It would be nice to have more answers. Not ready to let my guard down, but yes it would be very cool to finally be hearing Hooper Bay

I haven't had enough time to listen to the whole record, but... Has anyone checked is there are children voices? According to bocpages Hooper Bay was the first BoC material to include children voices in the music. Maybe if there isn't any in this upload, we can confirm that it is fake. Also the fact that the timestamps doesn't match with the old website ones makes me think it is not legit...

There is. I think i hear some for sure on Point Hope, and some heavily distorted vocals that remind me of Sixtyten.

I don't think there are any on Side A, but Point Hope (I think?) has some.
Also, is it ridiculous to think the track lengths could be different on the tape and 12" releases?
I don't know much about vinyl, but would there be a reason to do that?

Maybe we should ask MDG to confirm/deny this, before the owner decides to sell it for 10,000$...
I somehow doubt we'll get a better quality recording/photos.

Side A starts with what sound like kids' voices to me, going through a delay.

I mean why hasn't he uploaded more images of the vinyl? Why is he trying to protect everything? There's no way he doesn't have a better way of recording the audio, and he didn't want to show anything that hasn't already been seen/heard (e.g the rest of the album art, and at first any other audio apart from circle).

If you look at the
first video you can see that the run in grooves are wider than normal, implying the record is lathe cut. Potentially they had less space to work with as a result of this loss, however it doesnt make much sense considering some are longer and some are shorter. Theres a good chance theres just 2 versions of the tracks on this 12" and on the cassete

Strange to not see this get its own thread. I’ve heard too many HB fakes to believe this one’s finally real. But it’s a pretty damn good fake. Why was the recording so dark and closed in on the middle of the record?

guys user on Youtube is Loughly71, and his Discogs page says he’s from Edinburgh and that he hasn’t been in the scene for years but he’s had this record since the early 1990s. If all this information is true we can discern this is a 52 year old man from Scotland, which may explain the camera quality. I don’t expect it to be perfect nor do I knock him for it, I’m actually surprised and thankful we got any recording at all

I have a theory that he was browsing the internet and came across some post or something about the 25th anniversary on MHTR and thought "oh I remember these guys, I might have one of their records here somewhere" and then found it, did some research, and realised what he had. It's not likely but it might explain the date of posting lol
