Okay yeah, I just read the Reddit post. They said they fast forwarded a bit and nothing jumped out, but also that they didn’t take it all the way to the end. Seems weird. Maybe the excess tape just has to do with how they were manufactured, but a closer look would be nice

So, i kind of know who this person is, but not personally. I know someone through my work who is connected to them. What i was told this morning is that they have the longer version, they don't want to play it too much at the moment until they are able to capture the tape visually. They are waiting on a lead to arrive to be able to capture from VHS, should be here this weekend. So, from what i was told, they fast forwarded a little to see if anything jumped out and then decided not to play it too many times.

Fingers crossed we get a rip of the whole tape from start till it runs out.

Old VCRs can sometimes be in bad condition by the way, and chew tapes. That's why he mentioned warming his old machine up with an old tape.

I bought a VCR recently and it chewed up my VHS of John Carpenter's They Live.

Hey, fair enough. Last time I saw a VCR being used in person it ate the tape, so I get it.

Patience is a virtue here. Hopefully they come through with a solid capture of the whole tape when they’re able to.

Not sure if subtopia-north posts here (the reddit user who had the first image of a longer-looking tape). He told me now in a DM that his tape does not have the "E 15 SHG BC 121005" marking on the long end of the tape.

It might just mean that these are different blank tapes that were used? Longer tape, no marking, but same content?

That's all it probably is but it would be a slightly curious move. Looking online I could easily buy a job-lot of E15 tapes from a UK supplier in excess of the quantities we're seeing being delivered.

Wow can't believe it's finally happening. And what a beautiful tape.

If these tapes are of a sufficiently limited run, I would assume the brothers have the equipment, know-how and perfectionism to trim a few of these VHS tapes and I'd not be fully convinced nothing is buried in their silence. But if dozens more of these tapes pop up then its like whatever.

I tend to err on the less mystical/esoteric side here. I think they are just teasers of the theme for the new album. Would be happy to be proven wrong of course, but I don't think they would go down the treasure hunt/puzzle route again to market this project. Why essentially tread old ground?

It doesn’t for me. Nothing since the merch drop and my order last June.

Interesting. Thanks for answering that.

yah. with you on this. I think it is just a cool experience prior to an announcement or surprise release.

Maybe not a treasure hunt, but they do love secrets and meticulous easter eggs.

Btw just to point something out, some people speculated that the recent merch drop was connected to an imminent album release and turns out it was. I understand all the recipients of the tapes had made a purchase. Choosing people from years ago would be risky since people tend to change addresses. It may have been their main motivation for the drop to choose recipients for the tapes.

Also goes to show that they care about marketing and financial savviness. "They" not just being BoC but Warp too (duh, I know). Now fans are more motivated to buy merch in the future. So like I pointed out earlier in the thread, a new album is more likely than BOCSET to wake up dormant fans and attract new ones when it's reviewed, marketed and talked about. The BOCSET not preceding but following it relatively soon afterwards would likely maximize gains.

Haha, yeah i put those shoddy mixes together. I have some that i never uploaded to YouTube too and some half finished. I really enjoyed making them, i'd basically use Reddit and a few obscure subreddits and also YouTube to find songs i liked and then started organising them into a theme. Hunted down old advert/commercials and stuff and threw them together in Audacity.

Saves a bit of release date speculation with regards to RSD. Now, that could change, not the first time participating stores get a last minute release update. If that does happen and it isn't embargoed, I will update ;)

The 6 copies of the XXXXXX 12" were not on any official RSD list either, just dropped in to some stores. I think?

Indeed they weren't, but then they weren't actually part of the RSD releases either from what I recall. They were just drops.
RSD participating stores will get all the info for all releases regardless of how limited they are. When the time comes to order releases in, we can pop our preorders in and then we have to wait (at the mercy of the labels/distributors) to find out what our allocation is.

So with regards to there being a BoC RSD UK official release, we have no info on that happening as it stands. That may change in due course and if so I will update here, unless the information is embargoed and in this case, I won't be able to say anything until the date/time they give us to release info. My original post was merely made to say that as of now, we have no info on an official BoC RSD UK release & if we did have info and it was embargoed, I would have avoided posting anything lol.

Sorry for the late reply.
But, yes, they were briefly listed on the 2013 Record Store Day website before the albums were found.

Yeah I would tend to agree. The secrets/easter eggs has been something they have done for a long time. I could even see this just being something where they have a meaning in mind for it, but never tell anyone, just to keep it as a mystery. Sometimes things are more fascinating and keep that draw if you don’t know what the answers are and it stays a mystery. Could be an ARG type thing, or it could not be. They are coming back from a long period of relative silence so coming back big would make sense.

On an unrelated note, I am not in the habit of checking their YouTube playlists, but it appears that the “video playlist” now has 12 videos of “One Very Important Thought” listed first. Some of them are recent, with one uploaded only 8 months ago. So this shuffle must have occurred relatively recently? I remember that they did a similar thing in 2013, with the video playlist/favouriting videos. Is it possible to see when changes were last made to the playlist? Could be nothing relevant to what’s going on with the tapes. Like it could just be a little comment on what is going on politically in the world.

One of the stills is when Alex Jones visited the Branch Davidian site. The comments on this thread are so interesting:

Did anyone see the Andromeda Strain hexagonal vinyl? I immediately thought of it when I saw the moody bible transcript. Seems a BOC tomorrows harvest adjacent soundtrack.

Genuinely, I'm the opposite, I think we're about to see an ARG on steroids.
