Which begs the question, what is the original source of the sound?

It's a recording of the Russian numbers station UVB-76 from 2006.

It sounded awfully familiar once I thought about it so I had to check.

Around 15 or so years ago there were almost no recordings of UVB-76 on the web. Voice transmissions were practically mythical, so the few recordings that were around got shared a lot. This one in particular got a lot of attention; it was the only recording embedded on the Wikipedia page for some time as well. I'm guessing BoC heard it ages ago and held on to it, it's such a weird and otherworldly-sounding transmission. It's quite easy to find UVB-76 recordings now, a lot of people monitor (and troll!) the station given the war in Ukraine.

And the Conet Project gave numbers stations a little boost. Story about that record was broadcast on several outlets, including n p r, who hosted one of the cosecha transmissions during the media blitz.

Over on Reddit a user spotted that 5 frames exist in the NTSC tapes that don't exist in the PAL tapes:

If you interpret each image in sequence you get something like LOOK VIDEO MASK FLAG/BANNER for the first 4, and I'm not sure about the 5th. The word spoken in the original video for that frame (found here https://www.reddit.com/r/boardsofcanada/comments/1si8yiu/possible_source_of_one_the_men_with_sunglasses/ ) is INSTANT.

I feel like this must be something.

Mentioned it on reddit but i’ll also mention it here. Im very curious about the added hexagonal borders to some frames, especially considering how we have mysteriously found the source of the riffle shot and that hexagonal border wasn’t originally there.

The tape looks like it's a recording of another screen itself playing a tape, which has the hexagonal pattern physically masked onto it. The frames where some of the hexagon is visible are shot up close to the screen and angled. The frame showing the entire pattern at the end is a wide shot from from further back, showing the entirety of the screen. Iterative and processed based.

Hello Twoismers, this saga has made me sign up for the forum.

Speaking of cults (and as a member of one right here amongst you, my dear brothers and sisters) I've been doing a deep dive into the WARC/WARE transmissions from the WARP playlists, after learning that the recently released NTS playlist which dropped the same day the tapes started showing up https://www.nts.live/shows/your-specialist-subject-ii/episodes/your-specialist-subject-ii-hexagon-sun-w-jakob-drozd-5th-april-2026 was created by a DJ associated with an American college radio station WARC https://www.warcmeadville.com/. Coincidence? Maybe.

I noticed the blank eyes in the posters seem to match up to the number of blank faces on the Music Has the Right to Children album cover, plus a seventh person with no blank eyes/face.

My current line of thinking is this: neither the VHS nor the posters seem to be pushing an ARG forward (meaning they offer no interactivity), which makes me think a concrete announcement must be very, very near just by ruling out the option of having to uncover it. Maybe next week?

Someone on keyosc mentioned the logo representing a spreading influence devoid of color parallel to the loss of life in the eyes of the zombie children. Some interesting theories being floated anyway.

Can easily see the vhs never being solved like that VAX site after TH. Can't imagine what people fed that thing, if they read or saved any of it..

It might have been vax7.7 with some date of last login matching 822. Can't find a pic of the old website..

It certainly feels like this. It'll be interesting to see if anything else happens between now and the album though, potentially something that ties it all together, unless of course the album is the connective tissue itself. What a time.

Yeah... AI will just straight up hallucinate answers to questions like that.

So apparently that thing's been there for a while and is probably unconnected to this marketing push. But looking at it, it's not even valid braille. There are a few other braille like systems that have a different character set, there's one called Fakoo that uses 3 rows of dots, but that doesn't decode to anything sensible either.

Honestly? I think its just a bit of random graphic design. At the most, it could be bits 3 4 and 5 of a 5 bit Baudot code https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baudot_code strip they pulled from somewhere but without the first two bits it could be decoded any number of ways.

First post since the Pioneer plaque days — the VHS tapes and street posters finally pulled me back.
Caught up on everything. Was leaning hoax at first, but the logistics and scale make that feel unlikely now. Classic slow-burn BOC cryptic drop.
